Those bring back memories for me too Mark. My parents had a cabin just up the hill in Long Barn. We spent many a pleasant afternoon bopping around Sonora, Jamestown, and Columbia.

Yes - I'll give this set of photos 5 thumbs up - here is a tad more infor on the location - than "just outside Yosemite"

Located in Jamestown, in the heart of California’s Gold Country about 100 miles southeast of Sacramento, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is home to the Historic Jamestown Shops and Roundhouse—an intact and still-functioning steam locomotive repair and maintenance facility, portions of which date back to 1897. This one-of-a-kind attraction combines industrial heritage and railroad history with the lore of Hollywood’s film industry. The Railtown 1897 Interpretive Center, the authentic roundhouse and shops, and the Depot Store (a railroad specialty gift shop) are among the Park’s unique year-round offerings. Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is open daily (April-October, from 9:30 to 4:30 p.m.; November-March, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

Visit www.Railtown1897.org for more information and current special events.

These were taken at a Train Museum just outside
of Yosemite National Park.

#3 has been restored. They were in the process
of restoring another one while I was there.

You can see them putting in new rivets.
They will be re-tubing the boiler at a later date.

This is a 5 car round house

Redbeard,
This museum is called Railtown 1897. It is in Jamestown just about south east of Sacramento, CA. The last time I was there, (late 80s early 90s), they had three operational steam locomotives: #3 Rogers 4-6-0, # 28 Baldwin 2-8-0, and #34 Baldwin 2-8-2. They have a total of four on the property with three diesel locomotives: 2 S-12 Baldwins and one EMD MRS-1. This museum is in conjunction with the Sacramento Railroad Museum. Should visit that one, it's a real eye opener, lots of power, both steam and diesel and rolling stock.
Additionally, you can visit Yosemite Valley Sugar Pine Railroad just south to the entrance to Yosemite Valley National Park. They have a - three cylinder-three truck operational Shay #10. Photos of these locomotives follow:

Love the old locomotives. Great photos. You can see the fire in the shay's firebox.

I did not know about the MRS-1 so I did a little research on them and came up with this interesting article on them.

Thanks Bill.

Lots of great info. I really appreciate it.

How funny, I just went by the Yosemite Valley Sugar Pine Railroad four days ago. Unfortunately it was closed.

I will be stopping by again on my next trip for sure. I'll make sure I hit Sacramento too.

Funny, we have a big one here in L.A that's much closer to me and it's been years since I've been there.

Thanks again for the info.
