I don't use it for custom settings as much as a way to get to certain items more quickly without having to search the entire menu. It just gives me a way to get to the things I want to adjust or change a little faster and easier.

I don't use them. I shoot in manual mode 99% of the time and I make adjustments specific to the situation. I suppose if I always used an identical setting I would consider custom settings. These modes are for those that are always in a hurry. I find that my best images are made in a methodical manner with forethought. I slow down and think about what I am doing.

I am on the road a lot for pleasure travel. I set up my camera on the dashboard using a beanbag and remotely trigger different sights as I travel. I have used both tethered and radio remote for this and I enjoy putting together slide shows of these pictures. Because I am driving I can't use BBF and let the camera focus through the lens.

I use a remote with my 7100, but I'm not aware of remote use on my 810. I would be delighted to learn there is one!

I went through the manual for 810, which explained what each function does, the decided whether I wanted to use that setting or not. It's up to you to decide how you want your 810 to perform and what you like as a photographer.

It's an unbelievable camera. Learn how to use it, and you will be much happier than relying on someone else's methods.

Best of luck and skill.

The socket is on the front of the camera. It takes the remote that the D4 uses though. Much more pricey than the 7100.

Can you share your experience with the Shooting/Custom settings banks? How do you use them and what common settings you use?

Artificial Horizon
New Folder
Shutter delay
& that is all I have in the custom list.

I found the Custom Banks useful when I was continuously returning to the same situation and wanted the same settings, for example: aperture, speed, focus mode, picture control, Active D Lighting, etc.
Using that facility I didn't have to remember all of the specific settings I liked in that situation.

???? You set Custom settings (no matter what make-camera) to YOUR preferences and use them accordingly!

I think I've thoroughly confused everyone. My bad.

The D810 has four banks for storing settings. I'm just curious if anyone has used them.
