While sitting in my groundblind yesterday afternoon hoping to get some more bluejay shots I heard the sound of a large bird flying just over the blind, looked around and spotted this guy on a pine tree about 15 yds from the blind. It's the largest woodpecker I've yet seen, the third picture is after he flew over to a dead tree in the neighbors yard about 100 yds away and is not cropped. And yes I did get a couple more bluejay shots. Have A Blessed Day !!!
If you go back to that tree in six month, you'll see that the hole is pretty much closed. We have a tree out front that has had a dozen 3" holes made in it, and they've all closed up. I think the birds have saved the tree by eating the bugs inside it.
