I am looking to purchase a Canon 100-400mm version II. B&H and Adorama are showing they are on "pre-order". Amazon shows they have 4 in stock. I have never ordered a lens through Amazon. Any problems I should know about? The lens I am looking at shows the seller as Amazon, not a 3rd party seller. Please let me know if I should be concerned. Thanks.

I've ordered many items, including cameras and gear, from Amazon and never had an issue or a problem. Normally they'll call or a delivery date and the delivery is usually a day or perhaps two early.

I prefer to buy my equipment from local camera stores. I like the help I get and the knowledgeable people I can talk to before spending lots of money on something.

I've only ordered one piece of photography equipment online. After 4 weeks, I found something I liked better and sent the first one back. I wasn't able to get a full refund. If that item had been available locally, which it wasn't, I probably would have gotten more of my money back.

So did I, when there was one around here. The local camera store was in a strip mall, most of which burned down about 3 years ago. The mall was rebuilt, but the store never came back and that unit now has a confectioner's shop in it. So, now it's mostly Amazon.

I've purchased alot from amazon, to the point that I actually go there first when I want to purchase something.

They are 100 percent credible. Just make sure the item is the make & model you want, and I always try to make sure that Amazon is selling it, not a third party.

They are the only place I can buy shoes that fit me!!

I have bought from amazon with mixed results. Directly from Amazon, no problem, very satisfied. I purchased a $3,500 lens that came from a third party that was a disaster. The lens was poorly packaged and damaged. However, there was no difficulty with amazon returning my money.

Thanks to everyone for their input --- I placed the order so fingers are crossed! It is sold and shipped from Amazon so that's a good start. You guys are great and helpful, thank you again!

Congrats. I was getting worried that they might sell out while we all pontificated!

Fingers crossed for a great result.

I deal with Amazon frequently and I highly recommend them. I have bought cameras, lenses and other photographic equipment through them and have never been disappointed. They stand behind your purchases.

Amazon is ALWAYS the first place I look. I'd buy groceries from them if I could. I live a 45 minute drive from most stores in Albuquerque, and Amazon saves me time, money, gas, shipping charges and sales tax.

I've been an Amazon prime member for a few years. I'd never look back.

Oh, and the local camera stores pretty much suck.

I have shopped Amazon for at least 6 years. The customer support is first rate. great place to buy toys like the teapot set I bought my granddaughter. The teapot came broken so I called customer service and they overnighted a new set no charge and said I did not have to return the other one with a broken teapot. I returned a camera reason that I decided on a different camera. Returns are free shipping back but you will usually have to wait for a refund. They credited my bank account the next day and upgraded shipping to overnight without even getting the return back to their wharehouse. They operate on trust and go way out of their way to please the customer.
one point that I want to make if you push the order button the amount is held by your bank for Amazon and is given to them when it ships. Now you cancel the money stays deducted from your account until 1 Amazon releases the hold and 2 when your bank releases the hold. Two weeks ago (I will never learn) I spent 4 days with $329 in the twilight zone. My fault but make sure it is not going to be a change before the order ships. It is better to ship the order and get the free return labels.

I have bought: a camera lens, an HDTV set, various cables, several tablets, e-readers, toys, jewelry, CDs, DVDs, etc, from Amazon, and never had any problems.

I know you have a lot of people on this tread...Now if you have a question or change in your order go to your account on the bottom is a list of links...find help then find more help. Put the reason or any reason down and where it says contact me click on the call now button and your phone will ring and its Amazon there to help....just like magic. They will go way out of their way to assist you. Just got off the phone and ordered a new Fuji S1 for a birthday present for me. I had some questions about the 3rd party that was $40 cheaper....no worries if it is full filled by Amazon you deal with then with any complaints or refunds. Like many have said stay away from the 3rd party seller unless it is fulfilled by Amazon and then it is really 100% buying from them. I thought I had been doing business for 6 years but its been since 1988. She foundf out it was my birthday and upgraded the shipping to overnight. Happy Birthday to me

Not happy with the S1. Amazon emailed me the return labels. Dropped it off this am and they scanned it in. Called Amazon and gave them the tracking number which they already had since they emailed me the labels. At 2pm this afternoon on the same day I dropped it off I get an email and phone text that my bank account is being credited what I spent on the camera ....I don`t think you could get better service than that.

What was wrong with the S1?

That was not the answer that I really ment to say after spending time with the S1 I think I can find a camera that is better for me. Adding this would make 3 cameras with a 1200 reach. The major things that I was definitely impressed with was the water and dust seals and the build quality seemed solid. The price of the camera can be spent towards a different spec that I lack with my small quiver.
