I am looking to purchase a Canon 100-400mm version II. B&H and Adorama are showing they are on "pre-order". Amazon shows they have 4 in stock. I have never ordered a lens through Amazon. Any problems I should know about? The lens I am looking at shows the seller as Amazon, not a 3rd party seller. Please let me know if I should be concerned. Thanks.

Go for it. They're now showing 5 in stock. Since none of the favored camera shops have them in stock, Amazon would be a good choice.

I have bought several lenses as well as cameras from Amazon with no problems whatsoever. As long as Amazon is listed as the seller, you're good to go.

Thanks, I think I'm going to give them a try!

I've bought many things from Amazon, but not something this pricey! That's why I thought I better ask UHH before I pulled the trigger. Thanks!

When I bought my Sony A6000, I got one that wouldn't turn on. It was a partner company, and they went to work fast to remedy the problem. They emailed me a RMA and a no cost to me shipper. I dropped it off at UPS. They received it back on a Friday, but it was too late in the day to do anything about it. Following week, they confirmed it was received and a replacement was on its way.

Obvious that they wanted no bad marks for Amazon to ding them on.

You can buy from Amazon with confidence, especially so when they are the primary seller.

I too have bought lenses from Amazon as well as a 7D, and have received the items in two days being a Prime Member. With Canon you will pay pretty much the same price as the big boys in NYC, but I have never had any issue what so ever with Amazon.

Amazon is fine, even with a pricey item. If you don't like it, you can return or exchange it.

The only issue with Amazon fulfillment is that they are charging sales tax in a lot of states. On a big item, that can be significant. If it's an Amazon partner, the sales tax is not usually collected.

Just want to add something here. I went to BestBuy to get some printer ink that cost $48. Then I asked them about compare prices and they checked Amazon's price. I walked out of there paying only $39 for the ink. If can buy locally an object that is also at Amazon, check the prices and maybe get a great deal.

Just make sure the item does not come from China. I just ordered a lens attachment for $9.99 no tax and with free shipping. In the interim I returned the camera that would have needed that item. When I contacted the merchant they said "no problem" but there would be a restocking charge, and that of course I would have to pay for shipping it back. Which I completely understand, due to that it was not a quality issue. This is fine with me except that it probably would cost me a gazillion dollars to ship the item back to China.

Lesson learned!

I don't quite understand how they can make money on such an inexpensive item and include free shipping to America.

I wonder what would transpire if I just refused the package?
