never anything Adobe; usually LightZone....
Lightroom 5! Wish I had gone to it earlier.
I use DXO as it has many presets. You can accept the preset or adjust it as required and save new presets if wanted. It also has some magic adjustments such as smart lighting and clearview which help balance lighting and clear hazy views. Sometimes the standard presets are all that are required so it is simple to use.
Mostly Lr these days with pse 13
I use Capture One Pro from Phase One, followed by final edits in Photoshop if necessary.
Photoshop CS6, my last Adobe product, as long as it does what I need. I'll switch to OnOne possibly or another editor if and when anyone comes out with something I need or want that I can't do in CS6. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
I cut my digital teeth on Photoshop but I'm learning LR now that it comes in the CC bundle.
I use ACDSee Pro 8 ... it does all I need ... it's very user friendly and essentially no learning curve.
Good Luck !

Same here LR but Nik efex pro for serious B&W which LR does not have.
Use acdSee Pro 7. Has all features needed to produce photographs that suit my taste. Has a feature that enables calling different editor/programs if needed... ie PS, LR, etc. Handles raw and most other formats.
I use Lightroom and Photoshop, both with the Creative Cloud subscription cost of $9.99 per month. I like the Creative Cloud system because you alway get updates on the software for free.
I download using Nikon Transfer; for PP is use PhotoShop Elements 9 with Adobe Camera RAW.
Years ago when it was a Jasc product I found Paintshop Pro; I think it was their version 2. It was cheap and it did a good job - though it took some time to learn. I'm still using PSP though I've updated many times over the years.
Since starting to shoot in RAW, I've added Raw Therapee as a front-end. That's not strictly necessary because PSP X7 provides a couple different ways to load RAW files but Raw Therapee seems to give me more flexibility regarding global adjustments and overall that extra pass at the start seems to give me better results.
I tried LR for a few days and it did not seem to give me any advantage. Perhaps that was due to a relative lack of experience with it. I think that so long as you use a fairly capable editor, your skill in using it is what is most important.
