I personally start off in Lightroom, however, for a quick select/delete (i.e. wihout building previews), onOne PPS 9 could be where one might start, then back to LR. Now, from LR, what programs or plugins do you use MOST of the time? Even though you may have purchased many different plugins, it just seems to me that the majority of these plugins all do about the same job, i.e. enhance or sharpen or convert to B&W, etc. Every time I see a new video on some popular plugin I am amazed as to what they do but they all look like they do the same job, enticing me to buy their particular software. More and more photographers that I talk with seem to STAY with Lightroom. Thoughts?

I download from the card to the computer through Downloader Pro. That enables me to do preselection and change the file names to something meaningful. After that it's LR. Occasional forays into PS and back to LR.

OK, so this is an extra step since LR can do this. I'm not saying it's wrong, whatever works for you is good. Just curious why you use extra steps to do what LR can do?
Mine is similar, Import from card to LR, do the [p] and [x]. After my Pics are done, run through a collection that checks all the metadata fields and forces me to add where needed: for example I always have to add a sublocation. Once they have run through that collection I delete rejects, and rename the remaining photos to something meaningful. At this point I can begin my edits in LR or PS, or OnOne

I copy from card into pre-prepared folders (on external drive) using system software, then import into LR with a custom preset that makes my raw files look pretty good. I look at everything in LR and cull, then add any further LR edits, plus keywords. For those photos that I want to edit further I use Photoshop and/or various plugins: On One, NIK collection, a few Topaz, and Macphun (using this one more and others less). I use the plugins via either LR or PS, depending on whether I will want fully functional layering or other PS goodies such as manhandling converging verticals or tedious cloning out of wires etc. Everything comes back into LR at the end for organizational management reasons.
Once upon a time I tried LR, didn't like it.
Now I use only PSE with Elements+ for all formats: raw, jpg, png, tiff, etc.
(I also have some purchased actions installed)

I use Downloader Pro because I started using it before LR could rename files on import (or at least before I knew it could do that). It became part of my workflow and so I'm still doing it.
When I found out that LR could do it, I briefly tried it out and decided that using Downloader Pro (as I had it configured) was more efficient. I have only to enter a text string that describes the shoot and select which images on the card are appropriate to that description. I'd have to select which pictures I wanted to rename anyway in LR and then I'd have to decide where to copy the files. DP automatically creates appropriately named folders for the raw files and automatically adds the capture date into the file name.
In the end I just decided not to spend time trying to configure LR to do something I already had down pat.
