My ONLY reason to go into Cali. Is that I MUST, in order to get to Yosemite N.P. I do NOT have a choice in that. But on this trip it is an "In and Out" = Only staying there ( Lee Vining, CA ) for four days.

My above comment being made I might add that I am planning to go to Manzanar National Historic site sometime this summer. I have been past the site several times and didn't have the time or a place to park a semi that i felt was secure so I could visit it.
Upon checking a map, I find that it is less than 4 hours from Manzanar to Yellowstone.
Go to Arizona Highways website and download some of their day trips. Hard to beat. S

Canyon de Chelly. You can visit White House, the most impressive of the ruins, on your own. But the rest you have to pay for. Jeep tours, or if you are into hiking you can hire a guide. I had a hiking guide for 2 days and it was worth every penny.
Around Tucson, again for hikers, Wasson Peak in Saguaro Natl. Park. An easy/moderate loop hike, great views.
Arizona or Gods country, thats what we call it is so beautiful
Everywhere you go keep your camera out and ready we saw bear running along the road we never thought that would happen. And the old time trains they are sitting everywhere in flagstaff.
If coming from NM on I-10 as you get to Wilcox go south to the Chiricahua Mts where Cochise and Geronimo roamed and see the Heart of the Rocks. Before Wilcox on I-10 as you look south you can see an Indian face with headdress facing upward in the skyline of the mountain top. Wilcox north see the Morenci mine, a big open pit mine. Wilcox area may still have the Sandhill cranes in April. Between Wilcox and Benson (on I-10)is Texas Canyon, huge rock formations. South out of Benson has Ramsey canyon which is a birder's delight. World renown as is Medera Canyon south of Tucson. Kitt Peak is west of Tucson world renown Observatory of the sky. Tucson has many places to see DeGrazia Gallery, the Desert Museum [wild life in a natural setting] . Could go on and on.....

tioga rd to Yosemite comes in from lee vining but at this time of the year it may be closed due to snow.I would check with the park to see if it is open if not it is a long drive to get in the park on the other side.it sounds like a great trip have fun.
We just returned from 2 months in Arizona and covered a lot of ground during our stay there. With the help of great photo tips from a cousin who is a photographer living in Arizona here were my favorite scenic photo areas: Sedona, Monument Valley, Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Horseshoe Bend, Grand Canyon, Apache Trail. Arizona is, in my view, our most topographically diverse state and the above list just scratches the surface. Enjoy your stay and the weather there. Happy shooting!

Going on vacation there next month.
Where would you suggest to take pictures of landscapes?
I know it is a great region.
Superstition Mountains and the Apache Trail, Monument Valley, Sabino Canyon, Verde Valley, Along the Salt River east of the Phx. area, San Francisco Peaks, Sunset Crater and the Indian ruins in that area, Jerome, Prescott area, Lees Ferry, Glen Canyon Dam area, Havasupi Indian lands, Sycamore Canyon near Payson, Tucumcari Mission (Not Landscape but very interesting), White Mountains. This should keep you busy for a day or two. Be sure to stay in the La Posada Hotel in Winslow, AZ and get a photo of the girl in the flat bed Ford. The hotel is fabulous.
