Coming from Phoenix to Tucson, stop at Picacho Peak park, right off I-10. The spring flowers should be blooming now or soon. Also there is an ostrich farm, if you are interested in such things, at the same exit. The Desert Museum is a must and Old Tucson isn't far from it.

The Tucson Rodeo is coming up too.

Welcome to Arizona and enjoy your stay.

Try the ICBM Missile launch museum, not far from Tucson and go up to Kit Peak and do a tour of one of the observatories! Look for roadrunners! lol!

All that were mentioned are great. Also consider St. Xavier Mission and Old Tucson.

Southeast of Tucson is a little known and infrequently visited place called Choise's (sic) stronghold = a fantastic place to both visit (for it's history) and to photograph. Take food and plenty of water because there is nothing there in the form of human comforts, bhut you will find the place fantastic.

The Sonora Desert Museum outside of Tucson is great for photographers. Try to go when they are doing their wild raptor demos. The San Xavier del Bac Mission is also a great place to visit.

There is so much to see and do in southern Arizona that three days probably won't be enough. I'll bet that you'll start planning your next visit before this one is over.

We visited the Desert Museum mentioned by previous posters a few weeks ago and it is not to be missed. There are 2 raptor demonstrations at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Also did the circle drive of Apache Trail. Not the easiest drive, but wonderful landscapes to photograph. Sedona is a 2 hr. drive north from Phoenix and landscape photography doesn't get any better than that IMHO. Have a great trip.

Thanks. I've been to Sedona several times, and you're right about it.

I'm thinking about visiting southern Arizona, based in Phoenix and going to points south. Any suggestions of where to photograph and what popular areas to skip?

I live in Phoenix also and when my son was living in Tucson we stopped by San Xavier chapel south of Tucson... beautiful with a thousand pictures you can take. Here's one shot I did when I still owned my t1i.
