ok I'm posting a picture of the setup and a pic I took I saw a tutorial on this and did it the same way and my photo is totally underexposed . How can she not be lighted when the two umbrellas are right in her face????? I was just practicing the setup so she's not made up at all Hopefully the pictures upload
?
?
also if there is a big mirror behind the paper does that cause a problem? I had the bg the other way and took some shots and realized the mirror was reflected into the shots from the flashes hitting it

Try turning your umbrellas around just oposite of the way you have them set up now. Also you may find they are a little close.
Might check your shutter speed as well
I am questioning the synch timing with your strobes. Almost looks like the two umbrella strobes either did not fire or fired after your shutter closed. The backlight fired for sure.

thats what i was thinking because it made a weird noise ..like they didn't sync? I checked to make sure it wasn't in rear sync or slow sync and it wasn't Wouldn't it be totally blown out if the umbrellas were too close? Oh yeah I had a speed light on the ground aiming up and yes you could see that one went off. So if thats the issue how do I fix that? I shot it many times and it was the same....
I wish I could suggest a fix, but I have no clue. (Do they actually fire?) I just posted what it looked like to me, the solution will be up to you figuring out what actually is taking place. Someone else here may have some good ideas of what to try, but short of directly linking your strobes to your camera (wire) I don't know how to fix it.
yes they fired Ok maybe someone can figure it out I had my sb900 firing the other flashes. Mybe I should try the wireless transmitter again (it wasn't working the other day) thanks !

I would say they didn't fire as well. I would do a test shot to see if they fire, if not check your wires, etc.

Have you got your body flash in Commander mode? That won't work with many strobes.
yes its in commander mode and they did fire...
If the umbrella flashes fire, it is too late or fire too soon. Try to link your camera to flashes by wire or with a slave. In my studio we fire all lights by a slave master, with all flashes hard wired to that master. Check to see all settings are correct on camera. Umbrellas look too close to subject.
I watch a tutorial and he had them that close It was really cool set up I will try the wireless
It's a sync problem- commander mode fires the monnolights early. That's the way it worked in our studio.

i agree with goofyNewfie. If all the lights fired, then the camera did not sync with the flashes.
