Interesting that this forum didn't like the show. Other sites really liked it as I did and I'm 66. Everyone has different tastes.

One thing I did not care for was the huge plumes of fire in the back drop. I thought it was dangerous and irresposible for the promoters to use such an effect such as this. I could just imagine what would have happened if a tank of fuel were to explode sending flaming gas and shrapnel into the crowd, let alone all the people that would have been injured or killed in the stampede.

Quite frankly, the worst thing for me was the poor conduct at the end. Curious to see if fines are imposed.

Though I'm opposed to fighting during a game (the reason I will not watch hockey), I actually could see a clear reason that riot broke out... Emotional release. The super bowl loser ends very much short of a lot of money, but far larger in the eyes (hearts? brains?) of most players is that there's no ring to hold for the rest of life. Seattle had every reason to believe they had the ring on their fingers at that late stage of the game. Then a cotton-pickin' brand-new green rookie expertly reads the ensuing pass play, times his move to be there in the split second before the ball arrives and picks it off. It was a massive shock to everyone on both teams, and I just don't think those guys had the balls to put on the brakes when their emotions spilled over. Did you see the interview with the rookie? He had lost it to so great a degree that he was no longer coherent. If you haven't played team sports, then there's no way that you could be fully capable of understanding that melee. I didn't say excusing; I said understanding.

Assertiveness, BS. If kids truly feel that let's say schools are "holding them down" then they should sit down with their parents and get the parents to demand from guidance counselors a classroom switch. I got some really good kids in my classroom for that very reason. I didn't so much demand the work as a stern authority figure; I just set goals and deadlines, and let the kids decide how much they wanted out of life (school). On the other hand, there were kids who said to me,"Why are you working us so hard?" I told them that it was because I was selfish...which confused them. Then I told that someday I would be old and senile, and that since they'd be running the world by then, I wanted them to be darned good!

Pete Carroll doesn't march. He paces. Back and forth. Forth and back. Always pacing with the same look on his face no matter which direction.
I want him to quit coaching football, and coach basketball instead. He can move to pro level and get a job with Indiana. Then he will be known as the Indiana Pacer.

They concern me also but it is a common practice out here in Phoenix. The have to be approved by the fire marshall.

I am trying to remember a worse half-time show at the Super Bowl. I was surprised that Julie Andrews didn't drop down into the stadium. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go......

Paul McCartney, several years ago, was the worst.

It's called "American Football", the clues in the name. No-one else cares. There is no skill involved, you just have to be bigger than everyone else.

Go out into your back yard and throw a football 80 yards, ten times in a row. Then come in and rest, and tomorrow go to rehab.

[quote=u02bnpx]My major objecyion to so much contemporary music is the burying of the lyrics, which I hear (or don't hear} even in fine entertainers like Springsteen or Jagger. Re the "lion" song that opened Perry's show last night, how many of you knew that these were the lyrics? (Supposedly, her young female fans adore her for her assertiveness, among other things.)

"Roar"

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready 'cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

etc.........

Is that what she sang/screamed? Could have fooled me. Other than the word "tiger" I understood none of it. When it comes to music, the younger generations seem pretty happy wallowing and reveling in mediocrity. There was a time when a performer(s) came out on a stage, with a curtain for background, told jokes, sang or danced and we all appreciated THEIR talent, not the creativity of the special effects entourage. There are no more Beatles, Elvis's, Roy Clarks, Flatt & Scruggs, Dions, etc., who relied on their pure talent and not pyrotechnics or LED displays to make up for what they lacked.
