Thanks for your courteous response. The symptoms are very familiar. I guess my options are 1) succumb or 2) find a twelve-step program.

I give strict instructions to my family members who want to give me a present; cash only to go in the GAS acct. They all understand and it works out perfectly. When I collect enough I buy the next must-have item. Also, I started selling useless stuff around the house on Craig's list to add $ to the acct. I sold over $1000 worth of junk in one year.

PS. You might want to hit "quote reply" if you're responding to a specific person.

Best cure is....look at the review sites and then compare the specifications of your existing kit and then the new stuff....sometimes its not worth the hassle and cost...sometimes it is.

This was a fun read and insightful about many things. However, the advice to limit yourself one camera and one lens is somewhat silly. How do you shoot macro and landscapes with one lens? Still, ideas worth thinking about.

In my line of work (mental health support worker) GAS stands for Goal Attainment Scores - I don't suffer from that so much as the 'real' GAS mentioned here in this thread. I covet so much in the way of camera gear, but I am pacing myself with purchases.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome

The good news is that once you get your line of credit extended on all your credit cards you get daily calls from your creditors inquiring about your health.

Make that a million and one then. Who cares how many times it's asked? I find it hard to believe you have never asked a question that hasn't already been answered before.

I didn't know what it meant, either. Maybe because I buy few, if any gadgets for my camera and I also don't read each and every post so that I can understand TWHBMB (that which has been mentioned before)

In the time it took you to reply with this not so subtle put-down, you could have simply answered the question.

Can also mean Give A S---. For example: You would say that a new company
directive or policy has a low gas factor.

I get the feeling it means a need to have the latest gadgets, but would love to know the actual meaning since I see it in so many posts.

It is an nearly incurable disease that causes the afflicted to immediately place an order from B&H for an item that someone has said helped them produce better images. The basic tenet is that it is only the equipment and not the artistic visualization and skill of the photographer that produces real photographic art. Also thought to be a shortcut to better images. :P

This answer is on the money. However I would like to add that no matter how many times one, (one being myself) buys the equipment and gets hit with the shock that it never improves ones skill without the hard work. One always falls for it the next day having learned nothing and looks to buy more. I will also add that "I", I mean "one" is very happy doing it anyway.
