I get the feeling it means a need to have the latest gadgets, but would love to know the actual meaning since I see it in so many posts.

It is an nearly incurable disease that causes the afflicted to immediately place an order from B&H for an item that someone has said helped them produce better images. The basic tenet is that it is only the equipment and not the artistic visualization and skill of the photographer that produces real photographic art. Also thought to be a shortcut to better images. :P

Thanks, Mike. Another self-diagnosed syndrome that afflicts me.

Make that a million and one then. Who cares how many times it's asked? I find it hard to believe you have never asked a question that hasn't already been answered before.

When I was in school ( way to long ago) I was told the only Dumb question was the one you didn't ask. The only cure G.A.S. is lack of money.

Thanks for your courteous response. The symptoms are very familiar. I guess my options are 1) succumb or 2) find a twelve-step program.

I just had a case of G.A.S. and purchased the Nikon 105mm macro lens....(great lens by the way)....now guess what....I feel another case of G.A.S. coming on as I feel the to get some more things in the line of macro photography......you have one bout with G.A.S. and it just leads to another....love it... :) :) now if only the wallet was fat enough to support the G.A.S. problem

There is no cure. Lack of money only makes it worse because you can't throw any at it to at least relieve some of the itch.
