My wife bought me a D9 Nikon for Christmas. I know nothing about cameras. Can anyone give pointers, I.e. Where do I go to learn about this camera and photography in general. Can anyone tell me how this camera is rated? Thanks

Me thinks you have a D90.
The manual can be found here;

http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16087/~/users-manual---d90

The detailed specs are located here;

Never heard of this model before. Are you sure you are providing the right info here about your camera type?

I've not heard of a Nikon D9, do you mean Nikon D90?
The D90 is an older camera and is no longer in production. However, it is a good camera and many people still use it.
Did your camera come with the owners manual? If not you may be able to find a manual available for free download on NikonUSA.
Whether you have the manual or not, it would be a good idea to look on line (Amazon.com) for either "David Busch's Nikon D90 Guide To Digital SLR Photography" or "Mastering The Nikon D90" by Darrell Young or both. If you are new to photography, the book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson will be helpful.
Good luck with your new camera. Have fun.

Excellent camera. You should have no problems with it. A semi-professional camera that is very dependable.

Thanks for the suggestions. She bought it for me new several years ago. I am finally just getting around to this project. Lol. I did read the manual from cover to cover but did not understand a lot of the information.. I will be looking for a local class also.

Cannot help with local classes since you have listed your location as "in hiding".
I am guessing your camera was a used purchase as the D90 is discontinued, but was a game-changer of a DSLR when introduced as it was the very first DSLR to offer video capability. It has the same sensor as Nikons D300 and D300S Pro DX bodies did. There are many excellent instructional use guides on the market. I recommend the D90 Digital Field Guide, or Nikon D90 for Dummies (no insult, that's just the name of the book). Both are excellent resources and also available used for around $10 - $15.
Enjoy the new camera!

Welcome to the Force...

You have entered an addictive land of truths, myths, fantasies, ghosts, goblins and, good old fashioned advice (whether you want it or not)...

Seriously though - the folks here have lots of good advice and a couple of days of experience and are willing share what they can - don't hesitate to ask detailed questions, in fact, the more details, the more accurate the answer ;)

A couple of links to help you navigate the forum and a couple of resources to hopefully answer your questions or guide you in your quest...

Ask away and post away - looking forward to seeing some photos.

Terry is obviously a troll.
Posts on 26th December saying his wife bought him a Nikon D9 for Christmas.
Wants to know how to use it and how it is rated.
Wants pointers on cameras and photography in general.

And then apparently that was a typo and its really a D90 and it was bought for him brand new years ago.
