Unlike you I am not perfect.

I think that is part of the problem. You do not look for thinks for yourself, you want others to do it for you.

Sin is anything that separates us from God.
If you do not "believe in God" that is like saying "I do not have cancer because I do not believe in cancer."

Just so I'm clear, based on what you believe, humans don't sin?

What do you think sin is?
sin, particularly original sin... is how religions control people's behavior. The fact that you're already born in "debt" and have to go to church, just to get even.
I think people are born with a clean slate.

Why are you asking what sin is? As an ex church leader you should know.

You are right that spelling is not my strong suit. I wear out my spell checker all the time.

First of all, understand this:
Going to church DOES NOT "get you even"1- what do you mean "original sin"?
2- if mankind starts with a clean slate how does it end up getting dirty? Or should I ask, who dirties it?
I'm not sure if you actually go to church to feel guilty or if you're talking through your hat, I'm going to assume the latter.
To me guilt is like pain, it's there for a reason. I do not feel guilty for things I am not guilty of, on the other hand I do feel guilty for things that I am guilty of. And like pain it should be addressed.
There is nothing we can do to earn favor with God. That's the opposite of what a lot of churches and religiosity teach us. It's not what we've done, it's all about what Christ has done on the cross.
The Pope, Mother Theresa, Gandhi, you,I or Charles Manson. We all have to come to the same place and accept the work that Jesus did in our stead in order to be in right standing with God.
No one can truthfully say that they've never had an impure thought, that they've never told a lie or that their motives have always been selfless and pure to their fellow man.
So God came to this earth in human form, lived a sinless life as a man and then made the choice to go to the slaughter and pay our debt or penalty.
Because he was innocent and blameless he was the only man qualified to pay another's debt. Otherwise, if he was guilty he'd just be paying for his own sin like you and I would have to, now we don't, he did it all!!
Religions teach that you have to earn it and that's a lie from hell!!!

my church is nature, my god is the universe and everything in it... together we are co-creating the world, moment by moment. I don't really have anything to do with anything that happened 2000 years ago in the middle east.

I thought that this was just for christians. If someone is not a christian then how could it possibly have any effect on them?
