Actually, I carried a 41 cent screwdriver set--quarter, dime, nickel, cent--and a Leatherman. I prefer a Phillips head to a corkscrew.

I have one of the originals that is at least 35-40 years old with a sterling silver insert of a swiss soldier. Great knife and fully functional with all the goodies. Geigy Pharmaceutial Co. gave me the knife.

The right collection of Allen wrenches and screwdriver tips for tightening any loose tripod joints or mounting plates; retractable lens brush on one end, lens pen on the other; fold out flange that slides into hot shoe with a bubble level on the side for leveling camera; fold out thumb drive/card reader with mini usb plug to allow emergency image transfers when you left your extra sd cards in the car at the trailhead; beer bottle opener (self explanatory).

A great and helpful answer. I have all of these things...save the bottle opener, as I don't drink.

Here is what I do when I am just traveling with the minimum. All my jackets/vests have large pockets. Many times I am not wanting to carry a camera bag, so I use plastic resealable bags to keep the dust from my lenses while I have them in my pockets. The bags are invaluable for this purpose, and very light.

I'm thinking my Swiss army knife should be full of varied denominations of gift cards for B&H, Adorama, and Cameta.
