What tools would the ideal photographer's Swiss army knife contain and what would you use them for? Go.

A Nikon D4 and the holy trinity of lenses plus an SB910 Speedlight.

The right collection of Allen wrenches and screwdriver tips for tightening any loose tripod joints or mounting plates; retractable lens brush on one end, lens pen on the other; fold out flange that slides into hot shoe with a bubble level on the side for leveling camera; fold out thumb drive/card reader with mini usb plug to allow emergency image transfers when you left your extra sd cards in the car at the trailhead; beer bottle opener (self explanatory).

That was a great answer except for Nikon users who instinctively know how to use that upper level type of equipment. Nikon zoom lenses are for those connoisseurs who are capable of twisting or push-pulling from one zoom range to another and can then have the smarts to press the shutter release. The use of a Speedlight just comes naturally as well.

If I must have a Canon I would take their last quality rangefinder with the .095 lens. Now that is a great camera.

Creativity, patience and steady hands. And maybe a little luck, too.

My Swiss Army knife would have the ability to move the sun and clouds when and where I want them :-)

Since that doesn't exist...it would be a bag full of fast glass in varying focal lengths.

I have to admit, I wasn't thinking metaphorically when I asked the question. I should have known with a group of creative's that I would get metaphorical answers. Good answer, by the way.

Actually I do have quite a few apps that I use too help predict when/where the sun/moon will rise/set.

Phillips screwdriver, flat head screwdriver, 2mm, 3mm and 4mm hex wrenches, crescent wrench, needle nose pliers, knife, scissors, tweezers, tooth pick, cork screw, bottle opener.

Used to adjust gear, cut gaffers tape, pluck stray facial hairs, clean teeth, and open wine and beer bottles.
