I'm glad you got some enjoyment from my D800 pics! You can start up your own flickr page real easy and it's free. All you have to do is register as a member with yahoo. You could have an album with just the 'Nam shots if you wanted. The sky is the limit. You get tons of views with a flickr page too.

How many shots do you typically shoot on a camera, or per year? Unless you are an every day working pro I would not worry about it at all. You will love the D800 and 36MP. When I first got mine it totally blew me away, and still does. You will find that you do not have to crop tightly at all. Matter of fact it is best if you leave extra room for cropping later, because that will give you more cropping options. Let's see some great shots. Check out my flickr page for some also.

Absolutely a Pacific NorthWesterner..... evidenced by your images on Flickr....

Great shots.

Yes Ken Rockwell is a trip. And I follow many video filmmaker and photo sites like Philip Bloom etc. But I will say that Rockwell turned out to be right in most cases. If you are buying a lens his references are great in my opinion. When Nikon camera out with the D800 (and he is known as a Nikon guy) he bombed them
on it's shortcomings and said Canon Mark III much better. Guys like Steve Huff (fun creative shooter)
Brian Smith are a great resource.
I am sure this gentlemen will enjoy his D800 at forgot
shot count. Good to just enjoy and keep moving up the creative ladder with no guilt.

Tom you need to use the quote link so folks will know who you are talking to, in this case I will assume it is me Well I wont get into that is Rockwell right or wrong argument it could go on forever, Nikon though is not the bad guy here they have treated me and others well when it came to service and notifications, as far as how you find the shutter count that is easy if you know how to read the metadata it is all right there for all to see they do not hide it. and as being forthcoming on problems can you give me an instance where a technical issue has not been reported on the site and where they did not fix the problems in the long run, you just need to go back to the webste every now and then to check. I did call them and ask at KEH for a shutter count and was told they do not give that out but that it will be low as the camera was rated at excellent, I do not think 45000 shots is low though the camera as stated has been tested to 200000 and above. I have been a photographer most of my 62 years and was a combat photographer in Vietnam so I am by no means a rookie, also I am by no means in my mind a professional either.

Sorry terry54 about quote link. I have been shooting with Nikon
since the 70's. Pro producer in corp productions and video. Now
I shoot most of time charity, biz jobs alone. Mostly video and stills extracted from frames for clients. I owned an AV production companyin the 80's and we shot everything slide shows with Nikons and a 35mm lens. I love my experience with Nikon and prize Japanese products. I take Rockwell with a grain of salt. Yes but you can an online info with an open mind of who said it. What I said about Nikon is true. Repairs they are very good about. But in last couple of years they are in denial.
Sony just released it's F7 video camera admitted problem with
aperture and their FE E lens. They announced they are getting
firmware fix ASAP. Canon is pretty attentive too. I have been to Japan and do realize that the nuclear accidents have created
chaos in their country that is really shocking and sad. I know
Nikon uses Thailand etc for some work but they are probably
under pressure overall in production and their business.
Thanks for the conversation. Tom

KEH is a great shop to work with just as Adorama and B&H are, also Cameta has given me some nice deals and service, I was contacted by them on the shutter count issued and they gave me a nice warranty for 2 years and a huge discount on 2 more lenses which will be here tomorrow. They have joined the ranks of the fantastic sales and service folks of Adorama, B&H,and Cameta Camera in my books all have given me wonderful service and answered all the questions I ask with very knowledgeable advice and they all have led me on the correct path to go with my equipment purchases not pushing towards more and larger cash sales but rather to get me the best deals on what I need. Now am going to find a battery grip and a remote for the Nikon D800, any suggestions on a brand or just go with Nikon Brand for those even though that would be a more expensive approach initially. What a great camera the D800 is got some nice shots this weekend I will work on putting a couple up this week. It sure is a different camera to use that even the D7100 I have. Fun to have both to play with, still trying to figure out the Sigma 150mm-500mm that is an awesome lens but it has a fairly good learning aspect to it ie; shake, focus handheld vs tripod etc.

Do you have photoshop?. If so you can find it in the metadata. Otherwise just search shutter/actuation cont for a site to upload recent shots from the camera and the are many to choose from after a bit of time they will come back with the number.
