So a thread asking for assistance in selecting a lens degenerates into a cock fight.... Nice.

This from a member whose only posted photo is a scan of a newpaper article from 36 years ago?

This has gone way beyond off topic.

Thanks for the compliment.

OddJobber, I hope that you are not referring to me because I have posted several photos since becoming a member of UHH. Several have been with DSLR cameras of late and whenever I get back on my feet once my heart operation is over with, I shall begin posting even more.

I, too, am sorry that it had taken a turn for the worse and if dsmeltz would had let a sleeping dog lie, none of this would had materialized. AND, I apologize to everyone for having stooped so low allowing myself to get involved with it in the first place !

OK. You have no useful addition to the thread. I understand. All I asked was for you to contribute to the actual topic. I will stop replying to your comments so that those who do have something to add are free to do so.

Obviously pictures would not add anything to the topic of this thread, so I will not add any. It would amount to a non sequitur.

As I mentioned before, on a cropped sensor a 35mm or even 30mm at the low end, but a 50mm like the awesome Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art lens would be good if you want a prime lens.

There are also a lot of zooms in the 17-55 and 17-70 ranges that would do well on a cropped sensor. Some of these are very affordable.

So, as I now understand it, you feel as though I am not free to post at will ? AND, as for a non sequitur, your posting photos would be no different than one of your previous entries whereas you were writing about the wife running a marathon in Germany and your spending time in Amsterdam, eh ?

The tide comes in; the tide goes out, and you, like a bottle riding atop the waves, just seem to go with the flow that best suits your needs, eh ?

Now, I am really signing off for today ~ which should give you ample time overnight to come up with a really good zinger to get me with tomorrow :D

In my earlier suggestions, I was focused on the shorter lengths for close quarters portraits. Your friend might want to try a longer zoom and do some experimenting to find a focal length that works for the kind of portraits they want to shoot.
