You will not have any problems at all, I go home to the UK for holidays every year and have never had a single problem. PM me if you want some tips on shooting places in London, I used to live there.

We were on a trip to South America recently and my carmera gear went through xrays at least 8 times. There was no damgage to the equipment nor memory cards. I always carry my equipment with me and like to put in the overhead across the isle from where I sit. I can keep an eye on it that way.

I never check my photo equip with my luggage. I hand carry it and ask to have it hand inspected. Be ready to remove the lens to show the lens or lenses are clear all the way through...you should have no problem. Take out battery if needed.
As for xrays, I have not had any problems.
The best lens for travel to meet all situations is the Tamron 18-270 MM auto-focus and image stabilized.

Hey we have something in common, I use to live there also, back in the 80's, I could not give any tips on what to photography though. But, I can tell you that it's a great place to get a cup of tea, or a pint of lager.

The only thing to be concerned about is spare battaries. all batteries must be installed in the device, in orginal packaging or the contacts must be covered.
