Hmmmmm I think that we were getting past it but it does seem to me that racial politics is president Obama's strong suit. He may be careful in his own words but make no mistake, with the election of the president and the people whom he brought to the pinnacle of power in the democratic party his politics have driven a divide in this country that I have not seen since the riots of the 60's. The democratic party uses and preys on minorities to remain in power, to insure election success they stir the pot, be it white privilege which does have a basis, to immigration, or the war on women, the democrats work very hard to divide us and to message to their constituents that if they don't get out and vote that they will be repressed by a white power structure.... It is all BS. Things were getting better, much better that is why our president is in office, but through their obsession with power the democrats have screwed the pooch and set us backwards decades...

The concerns that the democrats tout have some basis in reality but the dems not only do not offer viable solutions other than destroying the rights of others, but they really don't want to solve them because then they would lose the issues that they use to remain in power.

Tell me, what have the dems accomplished for minorities in this country? How have minority communities advanced in the last 50 years? What exactly was done for them to better their environment and condition? Even education, dems love to make noise about inner city schools and the need for more funding but each time that real reform is put forward that would make a difference for those inner city kids the dems squash it as they cater to the teachers unions who would be forced to make serious changes to effect the better outcomes sought.

We need a viable third party. A leader that has nads that won't fear for his life and do the right thing.

Let's take your four examples:
Baseball - The amount of money and greed in this industry is appalling. When players live like they are above the rest of society because of the size of their paychecks, means they don't care about anyone but themselves. Plus, how many players have been drafted from foreign countries for the sake of winning? How many scandals in the baseball industry? Too many to mention.
Hot Dogs - What's in them? What kind of fillers does the FDA allow in order to mass produce for profit no matter what is going into the bodies of our children and citizens?
Apple Pie - Cross hybrids and pesticides. Apples are not as healthy as they used to be. Allowing the food industry to mess with the basic foods we eat for making more money.
Ford (actually it's Chevrolet, but I'll give you Ford) - Hated the Jews the orthodox religion and it's people. Great examples of America.

My immediate reaction to this subject is there appears to be an irony in that the white/black conversation must still continue 151 years after the first legislated human-equality document, the Emancipation Proclamation. I think, soba1, the conversation may well continue another 151 years! I'll drift into opinion here: Basic human nature can be legislated overnight, but true results may be a long time waiting. It's basic animal instinct to at least be suspicious of dissimilar animals. Rabbits are automatically suspicious of wolves, it's like "rabbit profiling". Blacks have an inherent disadvantage over most other dissimilar varieties of humans: They just look so blatantly different than white people! Neither blacks nor whites can hide from this.

I can like black people or not. I can perceive them as a threat or not. I can recognize a black person as a friend or not. But not until I've gotten past the "he's different than me" syndrome. Sure, the difference is undeniably irrelevant! But it's still THERE. Sure, it's nothing but a difference in the color of the outer shell, but it's there! I harbor no racist traits, but that little "speed bump" is unavoidable, just as with a one-armed man...how can one NOT notice?

I believe the black man and the white man are functionally equal, intellectually equal, spiritually equal. But anyone who pretends not to notice the difference in skin color is just being dishonest, and that's not an admirable trait under either skin color.

LGBT's are embarking on a similar journey, soba1, women have been on this path for a long while, too. Women have the same disadvantage, they have an immediate and undeniable difference to deal with. I'll contend that women should NOT want to eliminate that difference, and neither should black persons!

Comparing the reactions of prey/predator species to prejudice within a single species is a stretch, to say the least. I agree with the gist of your comments though: prejudice toward those who appear different from ourselves is inherent. However, in my opinion, racism enters the picture when that natural prejudice is combined with institutional power: governments, churches, schools etc. This does not happen as a natural occurrence, but as a direct and intended result of empowered groups seeking to maintain their dominance and control of the disempowered.

A good case in point would be the first racial segregation laws passed in the American colonies, designed by the landowning classes in response to Bacon's Rebellion, an uprising that united African slaves and indentured servants in 17th century Virginia. Previously there had been no codified segregation in the colonies; slaves and indentured servants had equal status (on the bottom rung of the wealth/power ladder.) By granting a bit more power to whites, a pecking order was established and it was a rather effective and long-lasting one.

As I look at it, same Father, just different mothers. If we could agree with that premise, the world would be a much better place.

Baseball, worse than baseball is basketball.

Hot dogs fillers, the same as in tofu.

Apple pie, you must be a low informed whiner, you failed to mention alar. Maybe you have a low GMO count?

Ford, your is point over century old. More recently, Ford didn’t take any government money from the Obama/democrap stimulus scam.

If you had been attentive to this thread, you would noticed that the OP, not me, first used these subjects to symbolically illuminate the spirit that makes this country great.

We are all either brothers of another mother, or sisters of another mister. Given that in the minds of those who just care for people, color does not matter.

If we had political parties that really, really, really had the best interest of the country at heart, I think their ideology would be close enough to each other that one wouldn't go to guns if the other won. As it is, they're ALL fighting for who gets to gut the goose, and it becomes an artificial matter of life or death.

I'd like to see that movie just to find out why it's not called "Dear People". How is it they choose to address part of the population and not the other part as well.

I appreciate your post, eye2eye, because it's so easy to see where your talent lies. In theory, you should just as easily be able to turn a list of negatives into positives, given the inclination.

Personally I find it rather retarded that this subject even gets the attention it does. I've lived with every nationality except Eskimos. I find that all groups have an ax to grind. I also find that anyone willing to get off his duff can find a spot in the economy that will provide him or her with resonable living standards. People that spend allot of their time working to get ahead are to busy to stand around and bitch at the world because the've been treated unfairly. Grow up; the world is not fair and never will be. People who live near deserts won't have the same living standard as people living near icebergs. Fairness is earned not given. Respect is earned not given. Help should be temporary and not forever. I carry my black neighbors trash can to the alley along with mine;he usually brings them back at the end of the day. I keep forgetting, and he walks right by when he comes home from work. It's a good system,we both benifit and we both do our share of the work. If all this Black/White/ Christian /Jew thing would be boiled down to I'll help you if you help me there would be no problems. This all falls apart when one of the partys wants his share of the benifits for doing nothing or very little. I've also determined that the more bitching about how the world is unfair one does, the less likely they are to want to work to change their position in life. The perfect example of this happened to me just last week. A man dressed rather shabilly tried to bum a smoke off me just after he saw me by a pack of smokes. I said,"I'll go you one better,I'm parked by the air pump if you fill my right front tire up to 44 lbs I'll by you a pack of smokes." After he finished giving me several reasons why he could not do that,I simply said Thats why your where your at in life Your willing to spend your time trying to figure out how to get things for free. You should be trying to figure out how you could earn those things. You just lost the job.( He wasn't Black by the way) I had a Jewish friend when I was allot younger and every Christmas my parents gave him a present the first time he came to the house during the holidays. The card would just say happy holidays and Thank You for who you are. It never said Merry Christmas. His parents would laugh at this but he quite enjoyed it. I've eaten dinner at a Japenese friend's house and was quite surprised that they had a regular table. We all know Japanese eat on the floor right??? My Irish grandmother always said,"Work for what you want,Want only what you need, share your abundance and you'll never be poor, and always have friends." She was probably the smartest person I've ever known. She couldn't do long division (which surprised me) but she knew about life and the important things about it.
