Well in my case it was easy; I'm about as photogenic as a clod of swamp grass and I like birds, so I took my mug shot down and put up one of my favorites. Sometimes it just might be that simple.
Me too, except I went for a watery scene.

The reason I have selected to use this one:
It is of a photo that I took on a Memorial Day @ Bushnell Memorial Cemetery in Central Florida during the honoring of those whom serve, have served and those whom have bled, and those who have given all for my Freedoms.
They had a WW-II Exhibit of a Jeep and Soldier in Field Attire on display during the ceremonies.
A Gentleman Standing behind the Jeep near some of the Grave Sites. It caught my eye, I snapped the shot.
Thus I post it to all whom have served our Nation and given me the opportunity at the American Dream. From a kid in poverty on a Tenant Farm into this ripe old mid 70's Retirement Age, obtaining College Degrees, Working a Good Career, Helping Raising three Children Educating them, living long enough to have three Grand Boys and have a beautiful bride who has love me me for over 53 years.
(And Yes, I too served my Nation in Uniform as a Young Man, and so very grateful for all whom have served and those who have not served but also contributed to build our Great Nation)
I love American, I love our Freedoms...Do I worry about our Future, that of the next Generation, My Grandchildren, Yours, Others...You bet I do....Thus that is why I post the one used.

Tom,
What a lovely tribute to those who served. Thank you. My husband is buried at Bushnell.
I see you are in New Port Richey. My best friend, whom I visit often, lives there. Perhaps some time when I go to visit and she is still at work, we could go out and capture a few of those beautiful blue herons flying all around. I like meeting UHH members in person and taking a few photographs of the area.
Just a picture id just a picture. Many like to show something they are interested in or a pet, etc

I am going to do just that. Have a big charity ball coming up and I love to wear something exotic. Much more fun than a stuffy puffy gown!!

I think my avatar speaks for itself. It was a privilige to serve my country and to serve in the Marines also.

My avatar is a caricature made by a good friend who does it for a living. It is a fair likeness withing the bounds of such things. I always state my occupation as "Freelance Opportunist", which I got from an old friend who was admittedly one of the last old school hobos....I prefer it to waving the banner of Electrical Engineer, retired military, and Computer "expert", although all would be accurate.
I think a reasonable avatar is good enough for online, reserving an actual photo for when I feel more comfortable with a person or group...
Mine is a shot of me photographing a grave stone. I wanted my avatar to show me photographing something. That something, the grave stone is a thing I do as a volunteer photographer for a web site called "Find A Grave". A memorial page is made for each deceased person and a picture of the grave stone, or person themselves is oftentimes requested to be posted with it. It is out of respect to them.

Hey, Papa Joe--I love the pic and I wasn;t too far off in my sketch. It looks to me that the P6 in your pic has an iris diaphram controlled by a slider over the lens. Mine was simpler (cheaper)---a disk with various sized holes in it with a knob for rotation over the lens. I'd love to be able to download your pic. Where did it come from? Many thanks! Bob

My avatar is of a National Championship Trials competitor. The guy at the top is there to catch the bike, if he doesn't make it. The rider's on his own! The sho (in my name) should have been in all cap.s. It goes with the cars I drive. They're first gen. Ford Taurus SHO's. Not a Ford fan, just a fan of the hot rod engine that'll rap to 8K.
I've liked the Ford Mustang ever since it was first released. I currently own a 98 GT convertible and a 2008 GT coupe. I could use the only photo I have of myself for my avatar, but it wouldn't do much good letting you know what I look like.
I'm a little camera shy
