Sorry, that should read "titled D7100 Update".

I have a Nikon D7100 and tried to update myself and had a hard time also, so I called Nikon USA support and they walked me through it, and it only took 10 min. 😊

did you try restarting PC, making sure the computer sees your card?

I may need to do that also. I e-mailed Nikon Support. I'll wait to see what they say.

I did do that. It may take more than 1 try though. I will try it again when I get home.

Ok, I downloaded the Nikon firmware. I formatted my sd card and placed it in my Sony card reader. I just can't find a way to transfer the update to the sd card.

Go back to the Nikon download site, re-read the directions, follow those instructions to the letter - that should work.

I seem to recall that the SD card had to be connected to the computer BEFORE the d/l, and the file should go directly to the card, rather than to your computer. It has been a while since I updated my camera, though.

Good luck

I don't have a Mac but I can't see my SD cards when in the SD card reader on my Windows 8.1 PC. I have played around with it for weeks and finally gave up. In order to read my SD cards I purchased a USB digital flash card reader from B&H Photo. It plugs into your USB port and should work on both a PC and Mac. There are several available but this is the one I purchased. If all else fails, this may help.

Because of my PC tower configuration I also bought a USB male to USB female cable. If your USB port is flush with the frame on your Mac, you wouldn't need it, but they come in handy anyway. Here is a link to the cable.

After downloading from Nikon did you Open the file in it's own folder and then copy the resulting file to the Card?

After downloading, I am lost. I don't see anywhere to place that file.

If you don't see the SD card reader and card as a USB device or drive letter, then you might need to reinstall your USB drivers, or if this SD reader doesn't show up using any of your cards, then the reader might be defective.

First, try to re-download and install the MAC USB drivers and make sure they are updated to the latest version. This should be available on the Apple/MAC website.

I'll try that. Thanks!

This is what I did for my D600
The xxx.bin file is the file you copy to the SD CARD.
Confirming the firmware version:
Turn on the D600
Press the MENU button and select Firmware Version from the setup menu. The camera's firmware version will be displayed.
Turn off the D600
Basic Upgrade instructions: for detailed instructions, see pdf files below. Please read carefully before proceeding.
Create a new folder with an appropriate name on your computer.
Choose the correct download below for the computer system you are using, and save the download to the folder created in step 1.
Run the downloaded file to create the folder titled D600Update, containing the following file: D600_0102.bin
Format an approved memory card in the camera, then remove .
Copy the D600_0102.bin file to the top level of the memory card using a memory card reader or similar device, do not copy the file into any folder on the memory card.
Insert memory card into the cameras memory card slot, and switch on.
Select Firmware Version from the setup menu and follow the instructions displayed to upgrade the camera's firmware.
DO NOT switch off the camera at any time during the update, doing so may result in the need for service.
After the upgrade is complete, trun the camera off and remove the memory card.
Check the cameras firmware version to be sure it completed.
Format memory card in camera for use.
* - Firmware updates can be performed for you at authorized Nikon service centers.

First off, it sounds like this OP is a newbee to computers so please...if you give specific instructions, please use the correct file names since your procedure is related to a D600 and not his D7100. The procedure may be correct, but if he follows your instructions explicitly, his camera will not recognize the file as applicable by it's update software.

If he still has difficulties in updating the firmware, he can always have his camera updated at an authorized Nikon dealer near him. At some point though, he still needs to find out why his SD card reader isn't recognized by his system or he will have to use the camera's USB connection to his MAC to transfer his photo files in the future.

Thank you I'll clarify a little further.
GreenGuy told him how to get his Card Reader installed.
In my First line I'm telling him, from my experience, to go to the Nikon Site and pick his camera for the correct Firmware.
https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13783
And use Nikon Explicit Instruction to make the install.
