Ok, I downloaded the Nikon firmware. I formatted my sd card and placed it in my Sony card reader. I just can't find a way to transfer the update to the sd card.

Can you not click and drag?

No. That is what's bothering me. I thought it would be as simple as a drag and drop.

Did you have the SD card in the Camera or in the card reader on the computer. Just asking.

On edit I saw you did. Try right clicking, then copy.

Then go to the SD Card and right click again and click on Paste.

After formatting the card, I placed it in the card reader.

Hmm. I had no problem with mine, just highlighted it and dragged to the card. Some more information would be helpful, such as your operating system, and what you're seeing on your monitor.

What are you trying to do that doesn't work?
What about Ctr+C on the file, then Ctrl+V on the card - assuming you're using Windows explorer?

Hmm, it shouldn't be this difficult. I have an iMac ver.10.94 (I think, latest version). I'm at work now, but when I download the firmware, I see a zip file. I am not sure if I see the card reader. Maybe I should unplug all other external hd's and stuff, so I can see the reader? Sounds silly, but there isn't a clear name for the card reader.

Did you unzip/extract the file you are trying to copy to the card?
Or are you trying to just move/copy the zipped file?

I did click on the file and it "extracted" the file. I assume that's the same as unzip. But you know what happens when you assume...

Actually, the update I did was for a Fuji S3Pro a couple of years ago, but it should be similar. I left the card in the camera, connected it to the computer VIA a USB cord, downloaded the update to the computer, and dragged it to the card icon.

For sure, you will need to see the card on your computer, but should not have to unplug any peripherals to do that. Hopefully, someone with more Mac experience will have the solution. My last Mac was OS 8.1!

When you put a folder on your desktop name it D7000 UPDATE

In that folder double click the firmware executable and it will create a folder within your folder named D7000Update with a file named D7000_105.bin

That is the file that goes on an empty card to put in your camera.

When you turn your camera ON and go to the Firmware folder, you'll see the update option at the bottom of the screen. Make sure your battery is fully charged and click on the update firmware. You'll see your screen tell you DO NOT turn off camera or power. Make sure you don't

You're camera will update.

Hi Greenguy

Have you tried a direct update to your Nikon with the proper software program. Also make sure your camera batteries are fully charged. I do a direct upgrade of firmware on my Canon when I need to Canon provides software to do this.
