Sorry don't understand that comment?

You said how the D810 and D4S are very different cameras, and there are reasons to have one or the other. You then said you are worried about anyone suggesting one or the other.

I think the context that David already has the D800 changes the discussion.

Oh I see. I did not read his list of equipment.

If he already has a D800 then perhaps it does make it easier - the D4S would be the logical choice.

The point I was trying to make is that a pro should buy the tools to do the job required, and that the two bodies in question are not competing to do the same thing but aimed at two different segments.

A lot of people think highly of the D8XX models for sport / action / wildlife. Personally I prefer the D4 for a variety of reasons. When asked for advice I would state that to be the case; I would also continue to caution that anyone giving advice that for those types of work a D8XX is superior/equal to a D4/D4S may not be offering the best opinion.

But opinions are based on personal choice.

If money was the constraint then the D810 would be perhaps the choice but based on personal experience I would caution the user to expect buffering issues when working action based jobs. Lets face it you are going to be called on to shoot burst mode and the D800 / 810 run out of buffer about 80 RAW shots before a D4 / D4S does.

Of course if you are good enough (and able to forsee the moment to shoot) to always get 'the shot' without the need for burst shooting then your work will be in such demand that budget is not an issue.

I have read several reviews that give the D810 rave reviews. Some have even rated it higher than the D4S. I find that hard to believe. I have held the D810 and made a couple of shots, which were good but not enough for me to determine a choice between a D810 and a D4S. I am in the market for a new camera and I cannot make up my mind, however, I'm leaning toward a D4S because of the fast focusing and FPS.

And rightly so, the D4s is definitely the better camera, the 810 is a mighty nice camera, but just not in the same class/league as the D4.

I have used my 810 for about a week now and love it. I upgraded from a D300s to the 810 - my first full frame camera and am still learning but so far it has exceeded my expectations. I am also having to learn how deal with huge files!

Love the pics....going to invest in the 810 soon.

I have the D810 and D4 (as well as other Nikons) and from my opinion the D810 is supper fast in auto focusing. My question to you is will the D4S be worth the extra $3,300?

Very glad that you confirm the D810 is fast at auto focus. My disappointment with the D800 was its slower than expected (IMHO) auto focus. That is why I am now waiting for my D810 to arrive. Thanks for your input.

I'm really happy with my D800. I'm going to give myself about 60 days to ponder my next move. I'm still stuck on whether to get a 14-24 or a 16-35...this has been going for months...I just go back and forth. It's a nice delima but it is taxing on my weak mind.

Quite nice detail!

Any wide open shots? Looks like most of these were stopped down. Did you shoot all of these at the same settings?

Can't really ask for more out of a camera/lens combination!

These are a good reason to buy a D810.

I would agree, simply because you already have a D800. If you didn't have a FX camera, then it's a more complicated decision.

Right now, if I my D800 was gone and I had the money to get either, I would get the D810, unless I decided to commit to being an indoor volleyball photographer.

Just in case the water isn't murky enough Nikon Rumors on 8/8/14 said Nikon is bringing out another FF in the near future possibly slotting it between the 610 & 810. http://nikonrumors.com

I just bought D800 instead of the D810 and for the price difference I completed this beauty with a macro 105/2.8 and a extra battery.
This combi makes pictures, sharp as a razorblade.
I am very happy with this set
have fun,

Alex

Actually much sharper with the D810 and Sigma 180mm.
