Saturday was busy teaching 4H students about macro so I didn't get out in the field to shoot. Classes went well and I have been penciled in to teach the statewide class in the fall. There was a photographer documenting the presentation. If I can get copies of the photos, I will post for the group. Stacking rig was a big hit and quite educational as I could easily demonstrate concepts like DoF, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, flash versus continuous light, etc. in real time displayed on the laptop/projector screen.

Got out for a couple hours this morning but had too many outstanding chores to make a proper outing of it. A few shots, a dragon and a couple of a spider. I have seen others photograph similar spiders but the name escapes me. A bit of a challenge capturing it as it was on a tall (~5 foot) weed stalk that was gently swaying in the breeze.

Upon enlargement, images #2 & #3 are quite beautiful. Well done.

The four-dimpled abdomen lead me to believe that this is a female Araneus gemma orbweaver.

Thank you sir. I took note of your comment in an earlier post about shutter speed controlling background illumination and knocked it down to 1/125th. It works very well, back ground plant material was a good 10 feet in the distance and I still picked up nice hues from it.

Thanks Brenda, not sure if they were lucky but I could tell several of them learned quite a bit and were appreciative of my efforts.

Thanks Tom. I seem to remember you shooting a similar spider?

These are all very nice shots, excellent color and detail. I especially like how you controlled the background illumination.

Lucky kids! Wish I could have been one of them.
Best orbweaver shots I've ever seen! Download and + enlargement is amazing.
