My first digital photos came from a camcorder to a frame capture device. After that, I bought one of those blister pack pegboard VGA credit card size cameras for $20, then a tiny 2 1/2" long 1.3MP VistaQuest with a SD slot (doubled as a card reader!) for $20, then a Kodak C300 3MP for $89. Went through point and shoots and bridge cameras until winding up in micro four thirds.
My first DSLR? Not gonna happen.

The Mavica was popular with real estate and insurance claims people. They could get all the info on one or two disks and store them easily.

If I remember correctly you could get 15 images on one 3-1/2" floppy with the Mavica.

The Sony Mavica FD that I bought in Jan. 2002 would hold 5 or 6 pictures (JPEG) on a 3 1/2 in. floppy disk. You could shoot in TIFF but since they were bigger files you could only get 3 or 4 on a disk.

When I was working as an Traffic Engineering Technician, I used a Sony Mavica to record information at accident sites. I would then upload them to a file and include them in my traffic reports. Handy for the day.

My first digital was a Kodak DC280 2MP. It cost just over $800 dollars. My wife got it for me for a Christmas gift and, at the time is was the hottest selling digital camera available. She had to go to three different stores to find one and the third store only had two left. She got one of them. I took a lot of pictures with that camera and they were very good at the time. I upgraded to a Fujifilm S6000 6MP from the DC280. From there to a Fujifilm S9000 9MP and then on to real cameras - Nikons - a D70S and now a D80. The old D80 still takes wonderful pictures with the glass that I have - not the kit lens. It has about 13,000 clicks on the shutter and still purrs like a kitten. A D7100 is on the wish list. Have a GREAT DAY!

Yeah I had the DC290 as the last Kodak in 2000. The DC240 and I think it was the DC260, in between. They were excellent for the period. Still have a lot of shots on computer from the DC290. Gave it to my older son and he used it for a few years before the LCD screen went bad.
Kodak DC290 08/01/2000 and yes I know it could have been cropped and straightened

Yes, them old Kodaks took good pictures for the time. Your picture has great color and definition. Nice shot. I won't say a thing about straightening. Have a GREAT DAY!

I bought my first digital, a Sony cyber shot 6x 1.3mp. it cost $600.00 around 2002. how many of you remember spending $500.00 or more for less than 4mp's?????
My second digital in 96 was the Oly. The first one was the Casio CV10 that took horrible digital pictures. Returned it a few days later and got the C 800 L. Bought them both at CompUSA. Think I paid over $900 with sales tax for the Oly. It took really great pictures as below. Not useable now on modern PCs as it used the 15 pin Comport cable to transfer pictures to the Camedia Software to get them downloaded and useable. Times sure have changed in 18 years..wow. Great thread.
CAMEDIA C-800L (1996)
Launched in 1996, the CAMEDIA C-800L was the first of the CAMEDIA line. At a time when digital cameras tended to be priced at around ¥10,000 yen per 10,000 pixels, Olympus set a new standard by offering a camera with 810,000 pixel resolution for just ¥128,000 yen. The C-800L provided superb image quality and yet was as easy to use as a compact camera. It earned excellent reviews in camera magazines and became a major hit product. Olympus launched other in the series, up to the C-860L, with enhancements that included the use of Smart Media cards instead of built-in flash memory, and the improvement of resolution from 810,000 pixels to 1.31 megapixels.
