Wasn't life in color back then too?...

Jim...Not if the pictures were taken by Ansel Adams....;0)
Mike
Hmmmm. I was told his pictures were like that because his camera was black and white.

sheave is plural for sheaf - a bundle of wheat or other plant ...

very nice. something we dont see in florida as there are no amish or mennonites here. " Brother Ezikel, put down that surf board!!!" now if I could only get that Hymn out of my head. " we will go rejoicing bringing in the sheaves." just what are sheaves anyway, and why should we bring em in?

What a beautiful shot. It has all the characteristics of an early Gainsborough painting.

Because the harvest is now done. Only threshing left, to get the wheat out of the sheaves. :-D

Brings back memories of my uncle's farm in the 1950's. The threshing parties were great.

I spent a week with the Amish last fall and they were the "Old Order" who do not like their photos taken which is a real challenge to a photographer. Here are a few of the shots I grabbed.......

Yes Mike it does look like an image from long ago in a more simpler and peaceful time minus all the hustle and bustle, and I do believe they saw the world in color also, just the captured images of our history are stuck in black and white, but those images paved the way for us lucky photographers of today.

Another point of this are the children working, being part of a community and trusted to handle themselves in a responsible manner.
