Two Op Tech quick connectors and one of their neck/shoulder straps. I have connectors on all my tripods.

I attached an old shoulder strap to mine long enough to put one arm and my head through. Spent a day climbing hills and rocks with my 22yr old son and it sat comfortably on my back until I needed it.

Does anyone have a good way to transport their tripod while hiking? I sometimes walk for miles on trails and have always carried my tripod. That gets tiresome after a while. I think that some backpacks have a way of attaching a tripod. I only have shoulder bags so I'm not sure what the best option would be.

I use a dedicated zippered tripod bag with a sling. As you are walking it sort of resembles an arrow quiver. I've found it effective, but as always the darn thing is more weight. So, be sure you will be using it. My camera bag crosses over the other shoulder. I've done some serious backwoods hiking and camping, so the absolute best way is to have your llama carry it for you along with your other gear.

A standard aluminum backpacker's "packframe" is lightweight, and adaptable to almost anything. They are made to sit somewhat high, and balance well even with considerable weight.

When I need a firmer base, I rarely carry a tripod unless I have a darned good reasons (hint: $$$). I have had great luck with a Leitz table top tripod and/or a gitzon monopod. The Leitz fits in a cargo pocket, and the monopod has a clip that hangs it on my belt. I believe in VR!

I would recommend an incredibly hot assistant. Some people consider redheads the best option.

My bag is set up to carry a tripod, but if not how about a couple of bungee cords and a mountain climbing clip to attach the strap to the bag you are using

That's definitely the best option. I'll do that on my next hiking trip.

This topic comes up on UHH frequently. I have posted my solution several times but here it is again.

I friend of mine made mine for my after I showed him a crude version I made. Someone else here on UHH bought one from him the last time I posted this answer to every serious hikers problem. If you suspend you backpack from the carabiner the system becomes the most stable tripod you can imagine.

You will need three trekking poles. I have a third collapsible pole I keep in my backpack.

I'm married to an Irish redhead. She does quit well at carrying my extra gear, including my tripod......as long as I keep my snarky comments to myself. (Tripods to the back of the head leave nasty welts).
