I did watch part of it. Are you sure the NRA didn't put that out. My source says it did.

The NRA would know the difference but I don't know who released the article or how much the press changed it. I'm just trying to point out to you the difference.

A assault riffle is a FULLY AUTO a semi auto can look like the machine gun but only fires one round every time you pull the trigger.

There is no difference than any semi auto other than the looks and that is what makes the press go ape shit.

What the media calls assault rifle is same as a semi auto deer rifle it just looks different.
All those mass shootings were not done with assault rifle not one has been used in a crime since the federal gun act of 1934.
The media calls them assault because it makes it sound more sensational.

Not that it makes much difference what was used in those shootings but when you call for more restrictions on assault rifles you need to know that the only way you can own one is get a FBI background check and pay ATF $200.00 for the permit.
The semi auto is no harder to buy than any other rifle because it operates the same just looks different.

I love The Bill of Rights argument.

Lets see. It was created September 25, 1789 and ratified December 15, 1791.

Do you think anyone at that time even dreamed of automatic assault weapons? The weapons of their day, were expensive to own and operate, and were slow as a summer day is long. There was no Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang your dead. Hell, there wasn't even a Bang Bang Bang Bang. It was more like, pour the powder into a measuring device, add the powder to the barrel, ram a patched lead ball down the barrel until it rested onto of the powder, pour a finer grade powder into the pan, hammer pulled back and frizzen closed. Whew, by that time someone had already shot at you and you are dead.

Single round weapons were the thing of the day and more so to your point, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms was written for three reasons; hunting, personal protection and to defend with as part of a militia.

I am confident I could bet you all the money in the world that the writers of this article were not thinking of 15+ round weapons being used in your homes or on the streets.

Once again, I am not saying you can't have yours, 'God forbid I try to remove it from your cold dead hand,' or that you shouldn't be able to do as you wish, 'for this is the country that God blessed.'

I...that is I...believe there is no reason for the general public to be in possession of military assault style weapons and again I believe that to own a weapon you must register it and take a class to learn how to use it. To say otherwise is to say we do not need vehicle registration and drivers licenses.
I love The Bill of Rights argument. br br Lets se... (show quote)

I love it, too. The founders hadn't thought of TV, radio, or the internet, either. But the first amendment applies to them, just as it does to the broadsheets the founders were familiar with.
So any argument that relies on what was the norm in the 1700s fails big time, unless you want to eliminate all the other protections that have kept pace with technology.
Besides, the 2nd amendment protects the right to bear "arms." Not muskets, or flintlocks, etc. Arms. The amendment is technology independent.

Rights must be tempered with conditions. You have the right to free speech, yet you don't have the absolute right, you can't yell "FIRE" in a theatre.

What should one yell if there is a fire?

Maybe they meant the right to 'wife beaters,' you know bare arms. Or did you mean Bear arms?

No, the only use of an UZI is killing humans.

Not the only use, but certainly one of them.
Nothing wrong with killing humans, providing the right ones are killed.

This video is of Cox saying that they like OCT and support concealed carry in TX, which to my knowledge, they don't have. They could open carry pistols but want to carry assault rifles to make their point.

Donna you had better watch it again you have it backasswards.

They can not open carry a pistol that is what the people were protesting.

Sorry, humor doesn't always come across the interwebs all that well. I missed it, and I apologize!

It's late and I've been on all day. I am sure it was me.

By the way, look to the next Weekly Photo Challenge to be an homage to today's discussion.

Okay, I'm out. (Unwatch)

...you guys need to trot out some hard stats. I know what it's like to be "logical" and come up with reasonable assumptions...then I took training in journalism. Oh, and even "hard" stats are often skewed one way or the other...easy to do. FWIW, I'm into the freedom thing, but certainly would back responsible behavior regarding weapons of all types...even backyard swimming pools.
