I have to agree with everyone here I have an old Yashica FX2 that I loved shooting with and thought I would not switch especially when most digitals were point and click I now use a D90 and this is now an older model but the results are excellence and the differences in what you can do with the shot is fantastic. There is nothing worse than dropping off a roll you thought was really good work and the new lab tech makes a silly error with your film cartridge and ruins your roll. Also if your computer is an older model, that may be your problem if you have a sizable flatscreen TV link your photos to it and then view them you might enjoy the difference

My how we wander on theme. I would say this about old folks of which I am one, and their being cyber challenged by paying on line. I note that the Feds are hiring Hackers, to hack the Hackers, who have figured out how to break into the Defense Department, on line vendors and the like and individual bank accounts that then are drained with no one accountable. I pay on line, but I can certainly understand someones caution.

If you want to print large images get a full frame body. I shoot with a 1D, a 5D, and even though it has a slightly smaller sensor, a 7D. Images from these bodies can be enlarged and maintaine excellent resolution. I just put together a show of 20x30 images and the quality is outstanding.

Hey, let's give Scubie the benefit of the doubt. Just because somebody expresses an opinion many don't agree with it is no reason to trash them. Digital is quite different from film and one of the reason that people are unhappy with the results is that digital changes your mind set on how to shoot. With film you tend to make sure the shot is perfect before you take it. With digital the is no limit of just 36 pictures to the roll. I started using a polarizing filter on all of my full sun light outdoor photos just to slow myself down. It made me think about everything a little more. Yes, I missed some things that happened real fast but my pictures got a whole lot better.

Opus,
I don't think anyone really trashed him, what they are saying is that his premise makes no sense. I don't know what lens he has on that camera but I know pros that still use the camera he mentioned and their photos are magnificent. Use the right lens on that camera and you get wonderful photos. He is old school, so was I, they dragged me kicking and screaming into the digital age, I would not go back for any reason. Will I still shoot film sure but not because I think it is better.

George

If you are correct in your opinion, than I can't help but wonder why working professionals, who rely on photography to put bread on their tables and their kids through college, are spending anywhere from $3K to $40K+ for cameras that produce inferior results.

I suspect that if you, or myself, were to pick up a Stradivarius violin and draw a bow across the strings, the sound coming out of it would sound like a cat being skinned alive. The difference here, however, is that I wouldn't blame the violin, . . . or the cat.

If your serious about selling all that equipment contact KEH or try ebay. Never know who's joking on this forum. A lot of times it's me and my " warped sense of humor" according to my ex.

Whoever wrote this does not know much about photography. Full of so much wrong information as to be a disservice to both film and digital. Doesn't anyone screen these postings!

Whatever floats your boat. Me, I'm a digital convert after spending years shooting film. Can't wait to get the new D800 with a 36 megapixel sensor it has a digital negative that is 20x30 inches. On your side of the street, I still think black and white is better in film, but that's just one man's opinon.

I have been overwelmed by the complexity of digital. In the past I shot kodachrome and the only variables were ASA, shutter speed and f stop. I still can not figure out how to shoot manual (50D) and regardless of what ever mode I shoot in I can not, consistantly, capture the same quality of image I got with kodachrome using a 1947/1952 Exacta.

If I must spend hours in photoshop or some other software just to get a clear, colorful image, it just seems like I am lieing about something.

Gene, not much has changed. Digital is still bound by the same laws of nature as film: film or sensor sensitivity, shutter speed and aperture. As for the rest, some of those issues are unique to the medium, or in common to both. Judging from what you have on flicker, I do not think anyone could tell the difference in how these snapshots were made. In ten years with digital, I have shot better and more consistent pictures from the technical standpoint than I ever did with film. I fought the good war against film and am glad I lost. Digital beats film by far, especially for the kind of pictures you posted.
