Does elements 12 support RAW for Panasonic FZ200? Or do you still need the DNG converter?

I'd rather just update my software than convert the files. I've been trying to find out if Elements 12 supports the SX-50, but can't seem to find the info. Where did you look to find out the info. you just gave me?

It does. i use it.

When I try to open any RAW files (.CR2) in PSE10, it says it is the wrong type of file.
If I open them in Smart Photo Editor, they open up, but the color is washed out. See examples.
They load fine onto ZoomBrowser and display as shot.
It seems they all open up fine in PSPx5.

Anybody have any idea what is going on?

And, does anyone know if the SX50 shoots in RAW in Auto as well as any other settings?
Why bother shooting in raw, if you shoot your camera set to auto?

I use PSE 12 for editing SX50 raw.

Picasa will also read the cr2 files, but not many options there for editing them.

As mentioned, you need to be in certain shooting modes, such M, Av or Tv, in order to shoot raw with the Canon SX50, and you cannot use the digital zoom.

I set up the custom buttons for using the in-camera teleconverter, and have SCN mode set to burst. You then can set Av or Tv for raw or raw+jpg, and be able to switch among your choices quickly without going into the menu.

With the SX50 you CANNOT save RAW in the AUTO setting (they think if you use Auto that you don't know enough to be able to work with raw files I guess   )

Also some of the SCENE and special modes won't let you save RAW.

You could also use the Canon DPP program that comes on the CD with the SX50 to edit the RAW/CR2 files. That is Canon's raw file editor.

The SX50 will not shoot in the RAW format as has been stated. You can use the 'P' mode, this is also an automatic mode that allows you to make some changes to your preferences such as setting your ISO.

I have the same camera and for a while the RAW would open, but later on I was getting the same "wrong type" message and it identified the file as a .cr2. My grandson had used the camera for a few shots and I just assumed he had set something. I defaulted the settings and reset but it didn't help.Since this is just my carry around extra camera, I have started to just shoot in JPEG. Annoying for sure.

What software were you using? Did you change or update your software? Did you upgrade the firmware on the camera?

I downloaded your cr2 raw picture into DxoOptics Pro 9, then I adjusted it with Film Pack to a slide film of Fiji Velvia 50. No other changes and this is what I turned out. I really like what Dxo can do. It even corrected for the lens in the SX 50. Sweet!

Thanks, tommo. It looks good. I've never had any chance to work with DxoOptics, but I'll take a look at it.

Elements 12 supports RAW images from the SX50. Most RAW files have to be pp's for at least clarity, light and shadows. Otherwise they are very flat looking.
