I have a D7000 (coming up to 150,000) shots on it and a D7100 for back up for the time when the mirror/shutter fails on the D7000 and it's in for repair. There is nothing to choose between them and switching to a D600 (or better) means new lenses. If you have one or two lenses thats not such a big deal but I have 7 or 8 so it would be an expensive upgrade. I don't shoot wildlife or sports or very much low light photography so an upgrade to a larger sensor would have less impart for me. A D800 would be nice but again new lenses. But back to your question - I would keep the D7000 and wait until a newer version comes out for the D7100 or D300. Changing to a D7100 makes little sense to my mind.

150,000 clicks. Wow, I've been looking at refurb D7000

Sure, get the D7100, unless you want to wait (how long?) for the D7200. The specs are better for the D7100. You can get a D7100 refurb and then sell it when the D7200 comes out. Or, keep the D7100 and sell the D7000 when you get the D7200.

Great advice. I bought my refurb 7100 from B&H at the same price that Sharpshooter said a used 7D could be bought for and a new one definitely isn't twice the price of the 7D.

Never have been one to keep putting off a purchase and waiting for 'rumoured' replacements/upgrades.

Oh I mainly photograph Pugs and grandchildren, particularly grandson who plays Little League.

I also have a D7000 as my main camera. (I also have a D90 which I loan to my daughter for her to shoot weddings unless I have a shoot needing two bodies.) I considered the D7100 and decided that there was no reason. Not enough extras or improvements to justify the cost. There is very little that my D7000 can't do that the 7100 can.

I've heard nothing but positives about the 18-300. I have an 18-200 as my walk-around lens. But you may have a need for the longer lens. Remember though that it comes with more weight.

SharpShooter recommending a Canon. I never would have believed it! LOL

Yes get the D7100 or if you want to get really crazy try the Full Frame D600/610 with the 24-85mmVR kit lens(budget permitting). It's crystal clear. The 70-300mmVR is also a nice piece too, reasonably priced. The 18-300 I've heard is good but I thought I've heard it creeps and is not quite as sharp and is more expensive.

Are we talking the old 18-300 or the new 18-300. As I read somewhere the new one is ' lighter, smaller and cheaper than the old 18-300

Your pugs are so cute. If you haven't you need to join FB site The Brotherhood of the Pugs. I also take pictures of grandchildren and my pug.
I had a D300s that was stolen and have been trying to decide this week whether to get the 7100 or wait to see if the D9300 really appears.

When the D7000 came out I bought one and liked it so much I went out and bought a 2nd one. Use one as a backup or a 2nd camera if the opportunity presents itself. Personally I don
t consider the D7100 much of an upgrade other than the removal of a low pass filter. How about taking that $$$ and buying yourself some new glass that will work on your D7000 and a FF if you decide to upgrade later. You'll be better served with the glass than a minor update. The D7000 is one of the best pro-sumer cameras on the market in a DX format. Happy hunting.........

I bought the 18-300 last year for my D5100 and since upgraded to a D7100. The 18-300 was great on the 5100 but is even better on the D7100. I put it on and have taken some great photos from 18" to 1/2 mile away. Very clear even around the edges.

Took this mother's day with D7100 w/18-300 18" away

New one is a cheaper build with less lens I think. I don't think it can compare with the old one and there is only $100 difference.

Thank you for the compliment on the photo. Coming from someone with your artistic ability makes me feel good. Oh yes from the 5100 to the 7100 is a huge jump! Have fun with it.

And i don't always dress them!

So I am assuming you got the "old" one. Is that the one that is $100 less?

You know all the men noticed the "rack" first. So funny! My grandson (6 1/2) asked of she was wearing a bra and where I found a Pug bra. Geez, he's already thinkin' girls!

OMG, you have a beautiful fawn baby! I just attended the Pug Party put on by Pug Rescue in San Diego County. They got new hats and harnesses.
