I have the Nikon D7000 and several lenses. I am considering purchasing the D7100 and the 18-300 lens. Any comments or suggestions?

Oh I mainly photograph Pugs and grandchildren, particularly grandson who plays Little League.

Pug, I've heard the best Pug camera made is the Canon 7d! And you can get a used one for half the cost of the 7100.
I know you won't, but, just saying.

SharpShooter recommending a Canon. I never would have believed it! LOL

Yes get the D7100 or if you want to get really crazy try the Full Frame D600/610 with the 24-85mmVR kit lens(budget permitting). It's crystal clear. The 70-300mmVR is also a nice piece too, reasonably priced. The 18-300 I've heard is good but I thought I've heard it creeps and is not quite as sharp and is more expensive.

I don't think the D7100 would do much for you. In general, going up one step (update or upgrade) is not a big improvement, going up two steps starts to be noticeable.

How do you feel limited by your current equipment?

I would say your D7000 is all you are ever going to need for your purposes, it's a popular camera with very good ratings. Save your hard earned money but get another cute pug :). I read that Pugs are the most affectionate breeds of dogs alive.

If that is a picture of your grandchildren going to a prom then I would definitely get a Canon.

Of course I am just kidding. Please forgive me.

I would definitely get a Nikon D7100. I have a D7000 and absolutely love it. It will do just about everything I want to do with a camera. For the prosumer it is one of the best cameras you can buy and it will give you years of good service and excellent photographs.

They ARE affectionate and are considered the Clowns of the Canine World.

I wanted to stick with the 7100 although I would love the full frame. But the lenses I have, and I do have the 70-300, all fit the DX format. Well, except I could use the 70-300. It may also be that my husband is offering to get it and I hate to tell him no to such a kind offer! Yes the 18-300 is 996.99 almost everywhere.

Loved your prom comment and it's funny because my 16 year old granddaughter is going to prom this Saturday! I think her date is a little less canine, but I keep telling her to watch out for those boys! ): Thank you for your input. I figure I can carry the two bodies so I can make use of two different lenses.

OMG, you should. Rpavich one of the regulars here, has them too. I think he has three. Of course, he doesn't dress them like I do. A few years ago my husband would have said NO WAY, but once we got them, he went crazy for them. He's retired, so is home all day with them and has become very attached to the "children".

if all you're shooting is kids and pets, the 7100 is overkill, there are cheaper ways to get a 24mpx sensor.

Yes, he is, but he doesn't want to be obvious about it.
