Memorial Day this group will be petitioning for term limits for U.S. Congress. What do you think do they have a chance.

I would love it but not a chance... I've said something recently and was told we have term limits, they're called elections. I still feel term limits are the answer.

I've been told that it takes 2 terms to really understand what is going on - IF this is truly the case, do we want a congress of juniors that don't have a clue -
Yeah, I know, everyone thinks that the ones in there don't have a clue, but the reality is that they do understand the workings of the government and can work through the red tape when they want/need to. IF they would work together, we could have a powerful, successful team.
We need leaders that know what we want/need and know how to get it done and we currently do not have any positive leadership in the current administration...
And I'm not sure if a bunch of neophytes could pull it off - and with the global uncertainties, do we really want someone in office that doesn't know how to get things done.

The other side of the coin (aka Fantasy Island):
Wipe them all out and start over - the newbee's will figure it out as they are sharp, smart, energetic, dedicated forces of good that are supportive of this country, God, mom's apple pie and the American way... And hopefully not so naïve as to get burned by the government leaders (CIA, NSA, Joint Chiefs of Staff, FBI, EPA, Homeland Security, etc...) and taken down the primrose path to damnation...

So, in reality - no, I don't think it will make it.

Zero chance. The foxes control the hen house. They will NEVER vote themselves out of office or set limits on their tenure. The same thing with real tort reform. Never gonna happen. Why doesn't congress come under and abide by the same laws we do? Because they control the rule book. The ONLY way to remove them is to vote new people in and then MAYBE we can get them to set term limits. Maybe.....

The red tape is created by the backroom dealings of the "experienced" legislators you refer to. If it were kept simple and above board, anyone with a normal intelligence level would be able to understand the workings.

True, but it is the other agencies (CIA, NSA, Joint Chiefs of Staff, FBI, EPA, Homeland Security, etc...) where experience is needed or they would get chewed up and swept aside...

dljen... I totally do not believe in the statement above.. (not you, the statement..lol)
Yes an election can and at times does make changes.... but when we find a candidate for "Another" term in Congress spend 10 million or more for a job that pays $170.000 we have to understand that an election, for the most part, is a done deal and it matters not what you or I attempt by our silly ole one vote....

There are many things that bother me about politics but two that really get my goat are....

1) the Purchase of elections

2) A statement about an opening or a new member of the SCOTUS..... ie We have to get xxx in so we can pass our agenda...
what ever happened to the lady with the scales... you know the one who weighs the FACTS and votes that way?

Mike

I have no illusions about the possibility of "throw the bums out" and elect an entirely new Congress. Even if this were to happened, it would only be a matter of time 'till "The Culture of Corruption" rears its' ugly head. The foxes will still control the hen house.

By the way, I think "ethics" has become a dinosaur term. Not sure how many citizens can even spell it. IMHO, of course.

I think we agree, lordy, someone better write this down! :)

Our Supreme Court is all for corporations, big business and buying elections. I feel it's wrong, this isn't what it was set out to be. Vermont, I think is beginning to rebel against it, now we need the rest of the states to take the initiative. There is no ladies with the scales anymore. It's all fixed. I think there should be term limits for the Supreme Court too. Nobody belongs in an office for life. Nobody. Get rid of the dead wood in congress but no, they keep voting them in.

Faceless bureaucrats or elected politicians are going to run the country.

The "The Culture of Corruption" will usually start after someone's been in office for more than two terms. THAT is why we should have term limits of two terms in office.
