Hey guys, sorry to get off topic a bit here, but have any of you tried that
in-camera HDR on your 6D? If so, how is it working out?

Autofocus on the 6D only works at apertures of F5.6 or larger, so any lens or combination of lens and teleconverter that has an aperture smaller than this will only focus manually.

I have a 6D and use the Canon EF 500f/4L Is len with a 1.4 and it works fine. I get a fairly fast focus and exceptional photos.

Phil,

For you it might work out well. It can only be used with jpg so I don't use it much. It is limited to only three photos. When I want to play with HDR I find myself going to the onOne plug-in I have, which I use from LR. I can use it in raw and am not limited to just three photos.

The few times I did it seemed to work out OK. The other thing I did not like is that when shooting continuous it stopped shooting after three shots. This happens when you are set up to shoot in AEB (auto exposure bracketing).

I ordered a Canon 6D and am waiting for delivery. My question concerns the Canon 400mm f5.6 lens and 1.4 Canon teleconverter combination. Does anyone know if I will retain autofocus with that combination? And how well does it do in terms of sharpness and noise?

No, it will not AF with the 6D. To get AF with that lens and camera I use a Tamron 1.4X TC. That combo works well for me.

It might if you tape the three pins as with the 100-400mm lens. If it did work though it would be very slow.

Was going to ask if you were using the Canon 1.4X but just found out that the Canon 1.4X will AF with the Canon 500mm. The 2X won't though.

Getting back to the OP, I highly recommend that you view this video/review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fmMG5jgDwk - . It is my opinion and the opinion of the reviewer that the 400 5.6 prime with TC is the best IQ solution for 560mm - but you need 5D III or 1Ds for AF ! Also, cropping the 400 prime to 500-600 on the 6D is equal or better than the zoom lenses at equivilent fields of view. Since there is no IS with the 400 prime - you will need to be well supported with or without TC !

Yeah thanks Jim, I had been kicking around thoughts of getting a 6D. I don't really need it for anything, but sometimes when I shoot weather scenes for the TV news I would like to get an actual 16 from my 16-35 2.8 rather then the cropped sensor equivalent I get with the 7D.

So I'm just trying to determine if there are any other special features that could get me to pull the trigger on a 6D.

Phil,

I debated about it and finally pulled the trigger, for the price I am not regretting it. For the money it is an amazing camera body! I can't believe how well it handles noise and high ISO's.

I agree with Jim.
I just started using my 6D and I am amazed at how well it handles high ISOs with so little noise. Canon Direct is having a great sale on them. I bought mine as a refurb for $1291.32. New 6Ds are on sale too.
