I'm a very pleased Pentax K5 user. The two cameras (K5 and A77) are different in many way so it's not easy to compare them without comparing a number of technical features and operations in detail. Both take very fine images; both have very useful features worthy of serious consideration; both brands have excellent reputations and quality; both use excellent similar brand lenses; and both have fine ergonomics. The K5 IIs is an excellent upgrade to the already acclaimed K5. The A77 is an equally worthy advancement from its previous Sony mirrorless sibling. Both are excellent cameras and shows your good judgment by the choices you are looking at. Good luck.

I love my A77 and have invested in a wide range of lenses most of which I bought used either from ebay or Adorama used. My lenses are SAL1118 (11 to 18 MM), SAL1855, Minolta 35-70, DT 1.8/50 and the big boy SAL70400G. Oh and just for whatever a 2x teleconverter. The DT 1.8 I got off ebay for $100 and it is excellent. Everyone told me I must have a 50mm prime and now I agree

Hmm. I have the A900 and the A77. Love the A900.
Been having issues with A77 with sensor spots.
Am currently working with Sony (after a letter to Sony CEO, got call from Corporate Customer Relations)
So far count is 4 Camera bodies that get excessive sensor spots in short amounts of time. My main lens is my SAL70400G which may be the culprit but not when used with the A900 body? Suspect some vacuum seal on lens issue and a77 bodies more suspectible for some reason
I am NOT changing lens is dust storms either!
Happy that Sony is working with me to resolve it and will let UHH know the outcome.
Spots are very obvious at small aperture f11 and above
when shooting against light background (planes, birds... are my favorite subjects)
I have had from 4 to 22 sensor spots show up within 2 weeks time! Sony has both my Camera and my lens curently

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I'm picking one up this afternoon with a 18-250 lens. Best price I can find in Alberta $1899 for the rig. The lens is a bit higher end with ED glass.
Great pictures....I had read the camera was not so good for fast action but it certainly caught the flying shoe in pretty sharp focus.

You won't be disappointed...Sony makes great cameras, I have the A230, A35, and am currently using the A65. Hope to upgrade to the A77 next year - this year I bought the A65 and lenses...

Dog Don,
Final Answer regarding sensor spots and A77.
Went through four A77 Bodies.
Final answer seems to be SAL70400G lens bad.
It went to Sony Laredo Repair 4 times. WAS to be replaced on last time but they sent it back.
Sony Corporate final decision.
New A77MII
New SAL70400G2
New issue... A77MII new focus modes I can't seem to get right. Get about 70% failure (out of focus) on my planes,
birds.... Hopefully just learning curve. It shoots great and is awesome with subjects closer Mostly.
www.flickr.com/fbergess mostly car shows...
Oh, I have about 3 sensor spots. I try the rocket blower, still have two, may need to clean the sensor. This is normal I am told.

I don't have, and have never used, a Sony a77, but would not argue too loudly if Santa brought me one. I have heard nothing but good about them. I may buy one myself, some day soon. If you have one, enjoy it.

Has anyone used the Sony A77 and what do you think of it

For landscapes, wildlife (and BIFs) and microenvironments I love it. I use the Tamron 18-270 and the Tamron 200-500 for 95% of my images.
