I have the A77 and the A65. Prefer the A77 as it feels right in my hand and I am pleased with the quality of the pics.
Very new to photography so not much help to you. I also have a Canon 600D but prefer the A77 as I find it much easier to use. If you are thinking of buying the A77 I don't think you will be dissapointed!

Probably the best in its' class. Being a previous Sony owner I was able to test one out for a week down in Arkansas. Afterwards, I read some reviews. I just had to laugh because it seemed like the reviewers were die hard Nikon or Canon fans.

The a77 takes excellent pictures and the I.Q. is 2nd to none. I read one review where the video was compared to a Canon 7D. They kept saying how great the 7D was compared to the a77. I would like to know what they were smoking. In low light the a77 was crisp and clear.

At the time I was making this decision, I was also eyeballing the Nikon D7000. It too is an excellent camera. So is the Canon 7D. I was also in the hunt for a particular Carl Zeiss lens.

I decided to go with the a580 over the a77 because of budget constraints. I really wanted that Carl Zeiss lens but I could not afford the a77 and the lens. That sucked. The reason I did not go with the Nikon was that was more expensive and I already had a bunch of Sony and Minolta lenses. It would be cost prohibitive for me to start all over. Same goes for the 7D.

You will learn to love the electronic viewfinder. What you see is what you get. No guesswork. Nay sayers will tell you that the EV is too contrasty. This can be adjusted.

If you are into action photos, You can't beat the a77 either. It does a super job.

I love my a580 but if I were to do it all over again, I would probably forget the Carl Zeiss lens and buy the a77 instead.

The a77 is is also weatherproof which is a big plus.

I thought about saving up for the a99 but I don't shoot video and my photos print up just fine. I do not have to have the latest and greatest.

If you really like the a77, go for it. You can not go wrong.

Thanks tainc, Mister C and robbygb. Your feedabck and info is very much appreciated.
I'm trying to make up my mind between a Pentax k5lls or the sony A77. I'm a dyed in the wool Pentax user, but the A77 is starting to change me.

The Pentax 5K is also very good. How many lenses do you have for it? If none, I would go with the Sony.

Lots, but I intend to keep it. The Sony A77 will be more for landscape and general shots. I use the K5 with a sigma 50-500mm lens for wildlife

Cool. I like the K5 a lot. It does better at Higher ISO's than the Sony a580 or Nikon D7000 using the same sensor. The a77's sensor is much bigger. I know you will like it. I will even venture to guess that you will eventually put a telephoto on the a77. You will be amazed! Oh, and speaking of lenses, the Minolta AF lenses match up perfectly with all Sony Alpha cameras. This saved me a ton of money. My favourite lens that I use for all my general shooting is a Minolta 28mm F2.8 prime. I like it better than my Sony 50mm prime and...even my Carl Zeiss. Crap again. I only paid $30.00 for the Minolta 28mm lens by the way. Last weekend I bought a Minolta 28-80 AF lens for only $10.00. It does a good job. Look up my recent post titled "Atlas" and you will see.

I have an a65. It's the finest camera I've ever owned, and I've owned them all.

Specifically, it's the first camera I've owned that provides photos I don't have to post-edit. The electronic viewfinder is a marvel, especially since it allows one to view just about every change before you actuate it. Also, having only one eye makes its clarity essential for my photography.

In sum, I'd like to have the A77, but the '65 has enough whistles and bells for my use.

All the best,

Martin

I have the a77 but also Nikon d800. Because of its weight and versatility the a77 is my through in the car and take along camera. It is lots of fun and an excellent camera. Would highly recommend.

Hi Jim,

I'm a Nikon shooter and have been for many years. If I ever had to change I'd get a Sony A77 or A99. A friend of mine has an A77 and I've used it a lot. Wow! It's a great camera. I espcially love the clear, sharp pictures and great color saturation (similar to my old Fugi S5). Take care & ...
