There are a few options, Canon software, Lightroom etc. You can google How to tether Canon 40D and get many ideas I would spend a little time reading the different options as each has there pros and cons and make a choice from there that best suits your needs.

I'm surprised you were able to adhere something to the outside of a moving aircraft. What kind of glue did you use?

I have two. No problems. Remember that it uploads ALL the photos you haven't deleted from your camera so delete them from the camera before you turn on your computer. Also, if you delete pix from your computer, but not your camera, Eye Fi will reinstall them.

Hi All,

I want to be able to view my photos on my computer as I take them. I know this can be done, but I would like to know if I need a special program to do it. How do I go about doing it?

Thank,
Joanie

Joanie,
The Canon Software that came with the camera can do this for you. Simply install the Canon Utilities program plug the camera into the usb.

Here is the link from Canon of the instructions:

For hw to set up a tripod head over to www.teathertools.com they have a wide selection of accessories.

For Software you can use LR3, on sale at B&H now for $ 149.95 or search on Capture One, pricey but pro level software. I personally believe Capture One to be the best but you'll pay. Fot low to no cost check out Sofortbild. I believe it's still a free download.

Some allow a file to be saved both on camera and computer, some save to computer only. Google tethered shooting and your camera model and you'll come up with more options.

See Kelby article:

The D40 can be hooked up to a standard television using the yellow RCA connection cable that came with the camera. Not only can you see the photo but you can also see the camera controls. We do that in class all the time.

Not one problem and not one compaint. Very easy to set up and there's no leaning curve to deal with at all.

Also heard that you could send pictures back to computer if it is at home. Just need in Wi Fi range.

Hi Joan, I don't know about your 40D but my 500D has tethering software built into the Canon disc that came with the camera. You may want to check this out as well.

The trick is, I've found out, if your software is installed, hook the camera to the computer via usb and fire off a shot. If the tethering software is there it should come up and you'll see the shot you just took.

Then as the software is running, do your portrait or what ever and each shot after should display within just a couple of seconds.

Also Canon may be able to help with such software.

Good Luck

Joanie,
I would recommend purchasing Light Room 3, it has a very good tethered section, I know I use it. Now depending on your camera, you will need to buy a tethered cable, I would recommend 16 to 20 foot. There are a number of U-tube tutorials on tethered shooting.

Will this allow you to live view thru your I-PAD? It would be nice to have the ability to see what I'm about to shoot on a bigger screen, before I trip the shutter. Bruce M.

I don't think you'd need a wireless router. As I understand it the eye-fi can connect directly to your computer as long as it has wi-fi card. All recent laptops do. It is a "peer-to-peer" connection.

I don't have one, though, so could be wrong.

If you have a wireless router available the Eye-fi Pro 2X is very simple and you needn't buy anything extra. You do need to be near your computer (I can't recall the exact range) I use one and love it. Check it out here to see if this might be an inexpensive and quick solution to your issue.

I think you're correct, I need a router because I'm using it in connection with my PC not my laptop and my PC has no wi-fil card in it.

Is the GoPro attached to the outside of the aircraft? If so, how?

You can buy mounting kits with the camera and I have one that I mounted to the front fender of a motorcycle for a trip to California and back to Missouri, just to test it. It stayed in place for 5,215 miles round trip which also included a slight crash in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is a simple suction cup arrangement and it works well.

Joanie,
Here is the cable I use for downloading. Its long because I like to download with the camera on my tripod rather than on my desk where it might get knocked off, its also bright orange so its easy to see by everyone. It also works to view your photos as you take them with Windows Photo Viewer, no there software needed unless you want to control your camera from your computer.

Very simple, iPad, buy the connector, $24, if you're out & about hook it to your camera & you will be able to see your shot as you're shooting.
