I have a battery in the 60D that has been showing that since I put it in a couple months ago and it is still working. Mine probably isn't a Canon battery. So I wouldn't worry. Bee

make sure you have the on switche on in grip

Not needed for it to be on. Only switch mine on when I want to do vertical shots.

I also have the 60D with grip. In case you are not aware, the grip utilizes only one battery at a time, so that is all you will see when you click on battery check. Actually, the grip functions as a spare battery holder, so that when the first battery is exhausted, it switches to the second. The advice to switch batteries is good.

Common problem with many after market grips is the battery reporting is off.

Another thing I've read about: not a good idea to "mix" brands of batteries within the grip (i.e. Canon with generic), but figuring that I can get a 2 pack of batteries for my T3i for under $12 (shipping included) that isn't a problem.

Yes, if that battery has been bought after market, it might be "undecoded". This means that the battery does not contain the circuitry that will register in the camera's battery monitoring system. Nevertheless it'll work but its remaining capacity will not be displayed.

Hi, I often get strange readings from my non canon grip but my 7D works fine. I bet it's a problem with your camera and the grip not communicating. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

I might add that I have set in blind for at least 6 hours and I have plenty of power after taking a lot of pictures so I guess I should not be concerned. Its just it bugs me when I cannot figure out things when the camera talks to me. Please don't get into the "smart" thing as it is difficult as it is.

sounds like you have a battery grip the camera only uses one battery at a time, that might be the problem in reading the other battery...

VHD-Tex- What two batteries? I guess there is a choice but, I have the Canon 60D also and I have the BATTERY PAC LP-E6 and I recommend this. Never had a problem and have re-charged this for over a year and it's working great! But I have to admit, I also have a backup battery as well.
