I have fully charged my canon batteries (2) and placed them in my canon 60d camera. Turned the camera on and viewed the LCD monitor and I see "something about can't read the left battery etc...What is going on here. Book says to proceed anyway but why can't the camera read both batteries. Is it a register problem? I am using battery grip of course.

Can you swap the batteries and read both of them?

Are they Canon batteries or aftermarket? Sometimes two aftermarket batteries will have the same serial number which can confuse the camera with a grip.

I might add that I have set in blind for at least 6 hours and I have plenty of power after taking a lot of pictures so I guess I should not be concerned. Its just it bugs me when I cannot figure out things when the camera talks to me. Please don't get into the "smart" thing as it is difficult as it is.

If you swap the batteries in the grip and still get can't read the left battery, it would be a problem with the grip. If the error changes to can't read right battery on the re-arrangement, it is the battery. Clean all contacts and try again before getting fixed professionally.

You could give the camera a factory default reset, but I doubt it would change results.

Try removing the grip and using the batteries one at time in the camera. If they work; probably a problem with the grip.
