It all depends on just how light you wish to get.
For a pocket sized camera, the Sony RX100 II is a beauty for compactness and picture quality. Has a 1 inch sensor with 20Meg.
You can also get a EVF for it.

I have both the RX100 and RX100II; and the EVF. The camera is a marvel of quality engineering and produces remarkable results--all dependent, of course, upon the vision of the individual holding it and pushing the buttons.

Although I carry my EM1 many places, the Sony is always at my side, anytime I venture out. It's that good.

I've certainly jumped in with both feet (and wallet).

To all of you who responded to my 'Tired of canon 5D-11' posting, thanks for all your replies, comments and suggestions.I have tried to respond to each of you and at the end of last night, thought I had, but obviously a hornets nest was brewing( fairly normal for equipment type questions) and this morning, the fresh batch of ideas added new stimulus.I never intended to ditch the 5D-11, only for long haul trips where you are carting a heavy suitcase etc.I had wondered why there were so few suggestions other than OMDE1, but this morning some new ideas arrived...SonyA7 & A7r, which I have looked at , but the price after lenses could be an issue.Ok, so thanks again, and I'll still try to respond individually.--D.

Well there's your problem...you went to sleep. A7/r is nice, just pricey.

Are you serious? I've been to Europe several times and will be going back each summer. I take my Canon 5DII, along with three L series lenses, and would never consider anything less. Sorry, no light-weight camera/lens combo is going to provide you what the 5Dii with L lenses.

I love the image of the 5D11 on the walker.

Have you shot with an em1 xt1 or a7/r? I'm able to compare my em1 to the directly to a 5dii, and honestly, I much prefer the handling and files from the em1...it's hard to explain, it is just a more enjoyable shooting adventure.

Cdouthitt, thanks,..
No, I haven't yet used any of those you mentioned, and if I get something like any of the bridge typre cameras mentioned , it is largely recreation- or serious enthusiast stuff.
I am interested in what you are saying , so thanks for your contributions--D.

CD has nailed it for you... Any of the above three would give you phenomenal images at a fraction of the bulk and weight of your current rig. All three are different, all three are at the top of their respective food chains. Go have some fun, and buy one to get some retail therapy!!! :-D

I think it boils down to what kind of photos do you want to take, and under what circumstances. I would rule out the mirrorless small format cameras with interchangeable lenses. If you are going to lug around a bag of lenses, then might as well take the Canon. I did that on vacation with my husband and he was inconvenienced by my photography - "Wait honey, I want to use the 21 mm on this scene, can you get the bag out of the car?". If photography is the object and the companion is willing to sacrifice some time, take the Canon.

But if you want nice. sharp, well exposed mementos of your trip perhaps to print as 8 x 10 or so, and to make into a presentation for family and friends, then a small, lightweight, single lens, long zoom with nice macro, wide angle, and video capability, that a woman can put in her purse, or a man can forget about on a neck strap because it is so small and light, is your ticket. Canon, Fuji, Sony, they just about all make such a camera, and they are all very good for what they are and what they are designed to do. I bought the Sony 'cause it was the cheapest with the most features. Not disappointed.

CatMarley,
Thanks for the reply, and yes you're right onto the issue I'm wrestling with .I did feel that I had come close to the patience limit of my wife last trip, and so the idea of a neck strap type camera use is being looked at.
What Sony did you get?I had hoped I could find one very good quality lens that would cover most things. The OMDE1 lenses are way smaller than my L series lenses, not that I've given up looking at Fuji , or Sony etc.
Ok, thanks again-D.

Me too! Before I dumped my Canon FF's, I shot with my EM1. I like the images from the EM1 better, and certainly the lighter weight is a factor too. Maybe this old man who can't remain steady is rewarded by Oly's IBS! I feel a true sense of quality with the EM1 that I never felt with the Canon cannons.
