I have two decent camera stores in Chicago (a metropolitan area of over 7 million people), that are still open. Helix and Calumet are gone, as is Shutan. Ritz ans Wolf have combined and there are very few, and carry only Canon, Nikon, Olympus, a few Fujifilm point and shoots, and a few Pentax.
The only two are Central Camera and Dodd Camera. Phototronics is extremely sparsely stocked, and are strictly Nikon keeners. I'm interested in hearing what you all have locally that keeps their doors open, as opposed to B&H, Adorama, etc.; btw, nothing wrong with the latter, just asking about the LOCAL brick and mortar, and your opinions.
In my area we have Bedfords. Certainly not my favorite but it is all we have. Central Camera is the most amazing store I have been in. I wish we had something similar here.
We have Precision Camera in Austin. They are very good at what they do and their store stays busy. Camera stores are a dying breed, I'm afraid. I have my second home there and my primary home is 300 miles away. We really only have Best Buy. They have a couple of FX cameras and everything else is DX on down. They do not stock FX lenses.

The closest camera store to me is about 45 miles away and they don't have a whole heck of a lot. So I get all my photographic items online.
None, the brick and mortar shops are all gone.
Cameta Camera (5 stars), Berger Brothers (5 stars), Labelle (weak 2 star)
Only two that I know of in the New Orleans area is Bennett's and Lakeside Camera. Either one is a 50 minute drive for me.

Kansas City- Crick Camera, Overland Photo.... In St Louis I visit Schiller's.
We used to have others but they went away. I even miss IPAS, the eclectic one one in the Crossroads district. Do a lot of on-line business now for work.
There is one shop a half hr away that you can print at but has no equipment any more. There is a fantastic shop about an hour from me where I go for classes and to get camera equipment. I have the new tamron lens on order---even though it will cost me more than by going online. The price of the lens is the same but in the store I will have to pay the tax. But they are good to me and help me out if I have any problems, so I want to support them.
ProPhoto Supply (Portland OR). Purchased last two DSLRs and last three lenses at this store.
I live in the middle of nowhere. No camera stores within 100 mile of me. So Ebay and Adorama online are my stores.
Murphy Camera in the Louisville Kentucky area.

I'm not too far from Kansas City. I go up there often. How are these stores?
Midwest Photo is all that is left in Central Ohio, but they are great. Old building with creaky floors and knowledgeable experienced people working there. I have taken several classes from pros using their facilities as well. They also sell on-line which I am hoping keeps them profitable enough to keep the doors open.
