I worked the F-86, Canadian models. We converted them into QF-86 and German Sabre's as Dart tow A/C for about 15 years total. It was a shame to watch them be shot down. The Dart tow models few an aerial target dart behind them on a 1/4 long cable and the Air Force F-15 and F-16 would shoot at them. We also had F-100 and A-4 dart tow aircraft. Thanks for a cool picture.

Thanks woodsliv for the history lesson, it is very much appreciated. Thanks for the kind words about a beautiful aircraft.

An interesting display at the Air force Museum showing the plane with the skin removed. The HDR seemed to bring out the detail good enough to make a decent shot. The last two with their clothes on is the F-86 A and the last is the F-86D model which was vastly improved. Used mostly in Korea, the F-86 was also the inspiration for the 57 Chevy. ( please use the quick download)

Very cool indeed!

I love it. Been there but I don't remember that one. That Air Force Museum is amazing place to visit. I have to get back there when I can spend more than a day there. Maybe a week will do.

Glad you liked it Randy, Your right about time spent. I honestly believe it would take a good week to cover it. Too easy to miss something, and they are constantly changing/adding things. They are getting ready to break ground on another new building as we speak.

Thanks for looking in

Being an old Ground Radio Tech in the Air Force, and one who loves airplanes, it would be great to live in that area. I know the Doolittle's Men were there in Nov and I wanted to go sooooo badly. But live moves on.

I was a in the Air Force stationed in Loring AFB and I was a Jet Engine Mech on B52 & KC135 now there is a plane that would do some talking with its cloths of the Buff ... Ohh that was the day when a wind up of 8 J57 engines would wake you up for sure ... Lift off were almost flat that was a sight to see.

KC 135's and B-52 are beautiful birds to see take off. I love the U2 taking off and also the SR-71 doing fly bys and then kicking in it's afterburners. Awesome sight.

One of the pure joys of shooting at the museum is running into all the old service men that come there and listening to their stories. An education in itself!

Can't say that I have seen the later do any take offs but I live near Elsworth and they have the B1B's and they are awesome you can feel your chest with the pressure of the engines kind of like the same thing as a space shuttle taking off from the pad ... we used to live in a trailer park right on the back gate of the base ... touch and gos i loved and to sit high up on the hill and watch them come in below where you are sitting yup the good old USA has some awesome power.

Great photos! It's a challenge to take pictures of these aircraft in a museum setting with aircraft wedged in together, limited angles, ugly lighting, people stepping into the frame, etc.

And there's few things more beautiful than a fighter.

I live 10 minutes from Wright Patterson AFB which puts me directly in the landing pattern. I really hate it!

I was stationed at Loring too. When I think about how cold it is here in Connecticut, I can't complain compared to northern Maine.

Thanks Paul for the pat on the back, the first reason I go to the museum is the love of aircraft, the second is because of what you said, the difficulty in shooting. I've been shooting here for over 5 years, and thanks to a lot of help from here and some friends I have managed to improve a little every year. It is a great growing experience for an old man. :-)
