An interesting display at the Air force Museum showing the plane with the skin removed. The HDR seemed to bring out the detail good enough to make a decent shot. The last two with their clothes on is the F-86 A and the last is the F-86D model which was vastly improved. Used mostly in Korea, the F-86 was also the inspiration for the 57 Chevy. ( please use the quick download)

Had no idea the F86 was the inspiration for the 57 Chevy. It is amazing though when you look at the P51 and the F86 that first flew just a few years after WWII (1947) and how much more complex the aircraft and systems were than the P51.

Pretty impressive work on these Phil. I remember this display when I visited very well. As an Engineer...I just had to stop and take in all the inner workings. Just think...someone had to figure all that out. The Museum sure did a great job on this display. And your getting really good at photographing aircraft. You sure have plenty to pick from. See what you can do with the B-17 next time. It's one of my favorites. Ps...love the starburst of the spotlights in the last one...

Thanks for stopping in and taking a look, I will have to say that I will stand to be corrected on the inspiration of the 57 Chevy. I have read it several times and been told that by a GM engineer so I have believed that for years :D

I was hoping you would catch this, I was sure you would enjoy it. As you well know, photographing planes in the museum is a challenge, photographing the big one is sometimes almost impossible if your looking for quality. Work on the Memphis Bell is painfully slow but I understand that you can see it. ( a must do for me). I will give it a shot, should be interesting. Thanks for looking my friend.

I remember our South African pilots who served in Korea sang a little ditty."All we want for Christmas is the swept back wings" Their wishes were granted when they got the Sabres. :-D

The B-17 was one tuff airplain they returned to there base when they looked like they should be in a junk yard. One of Boeings bombers went from and idea to a flying plane in like 14 months or less don't remember for sure just know it was about a year. The black bird is a sleak plane.
The Boeing 757 I believe was the first that was designed and built with catia and was built with out shims. When a drawing change was intered it would correct all the drawings that the change was on. It use to take like 2 years or more to correct the drawings

I worked the F-86, Canadian models. We converted them into QF-86 and German Sabre's as Dart tow A/C for about 15 years total. It was a shame to watch them be shot down. The Dart tow models few an aerial target dart behind them on a 1/4 long cable and the Air Force F-15 and F-16 would shoot at them. We also had F-100 and A-4 dart tow aircraft. Thanks for a cool picture.
