I have purchased stuff from B+H and Adorama in the past and have been very satisfied. Marionsho, the cat is a "he" and he loves the camera. He will "ham it up" when he sees the camera come out. Thanks again for all the helpful advice, I will stay with known vendors.

Has anybody here have any experience with Ryther Camera or 42nd Street Photo. I am looking at buying a Nikon d7100 and both of these stores have pretty attractive pricing. Would appreciate any feedback. Thank in advance. PhotoPhred

42nd St. Photo. Gray market. And rude. I called and asked if a lens they had advertised was gray market or not. The guy simply hung up.

i only deal with the two main stores in nyc..they are B and H photo and Adorama..be very wary of anything marked down less than seems to be the average..they may be those touristy stores that have name brands in the windows at ridiculously low prices ..they may be grey market or bogus brands that imitate the real brands..i've seen so many with slightly misspelled words on the labels..be very careful..i live in nyc..so i mostly go directly to the 2 stores above..you can be sure they will be in business for a very long time..especially B and H ..you could spend days in that store and still not see everything..if you're ever in ny visit it ..it is mind boggling ..efficient and futuristic ..buzzing with activity..you will get the fairest prices there ..

If you want a good camera at a good price, consider getting a D7100 as a refurb from a legitimate dealer. Buying from the two above might be okay, or it might not. The camera will be cheap, but not the battery, charger, lens cap, box, manual... You get the idea.

i purchased a d 5200 and one lens from 42 st photo. it is not grey market and i have a free extended warranty....actually, i have a full 5 yr. u s a warranty. some advice on this forum should be taken w/ a grain of salt. although, b&h, adorama, cameta are big names, have excellent reputations and they can be trusted.

that was not my experience w/ 42 st. my camera is not gray market, has an extended 5 yr. american warranty. 42 st. treated me as a customer is supposed to be treated. treat someone correctly, and they will reciprocate.

After years and years of looking for the best prices and bargains I conclude there are no real legitimate ones! I stick with B&H or Adorama because they are honest, will really take things back and usually have the best prices. Beware of gray market or Canadian vendors (the latter may be honest but there are warranty, shipping and possibly customs issues). Prices only go so low!

P.s. B&h will often match legitimate competing prices.

B&H, absolutely. Adorama online is OK. In the store their staff and owners don't compare to BH. Some are saying 42nd St. Is OK to deal with. Things must have changed over the years. I called them about a lens, got a price and paid over the phone. Took the train from Albany (3 hrs one way) and when I got there was told the quoted price was too low and they cancelled the deal. You can tell just by looking at their storefront that they're in the tourist business and looking for one time customers.

I bought my D7100 from them. Horrible company but it turned out great!

They claim that the camera that they advertise is worse than grey market. I said I could change the language in the menu and they assured me that I couldn't. I can't imagine that; so I kept on and they finally offered a USA version for $999 with free shipping, 1 battery and a quick charger. I took that and waited for 2 weeks and called them over and over. Finally threatened to cancel and they shipped it within an hour.

Look on line and you will see that they are terrible about shipping. Try to get them on the defensive about shipping when you order it, possibly they will ship it faster.

I love the camera and the price--would not buy any accessories from them, that's where they try to make the money.
