Personally, I'd bring all your DSLR goodies AND a nice compact. Use the compact 80% of the time for the family shots---then negotiate some "ME" time away and then go out alone with your DSLR and create some awesome images. Disney shots at night would be awesome. Any ways, that's how I'd roll!!

Messed up and did not get the lens selection indicated...18-200 is Best choice in my book. Take pictures of the family. Wide shot with the rides behind them and tele of them on the ride. No need to shoot scenery since you can buy professionally edited pictures that will exceed your efforts. If you are into the scenery, you would not mind taking the 100 lb. load of equiment needed to get it right. In years to come, the photos of the family will be much more important to you. The scenery will still be there. The family will change. Grandkids love photos of their mom and dad when mom and dad were kids. You will also love pics of your kids as kids.

The Nikon 18-200 is my best all around lens with telephoto and wide angle capabilities. It is a great lens. The newest version of this lens is now available.

I have Nikon 18-200mm and would highly recommend it for your trip to Disney.

I have heard in photo stores and seen comments posted that the Nikon 18-200 has a relatively slow AF, your thoughts?

That's really a tough question to answer. There are so many lenses that are available but for your specific needs there is only one. I have searched many times for the perfect lens and have had to sell many of the recommendations that people have. Recently I went to China and purchased a 18-105mm lens at the recommendation of some friends. I liked the lens but needed a little more on the zoom. When I returned I purchased a 24-120mm lens and feel this is the perfect lens for traveling. How close do you want to get? is the quality of your picture suitable to crop for a tight shot? Good luck and I hope you get the right lens the first time.

Spend about $300 for an OLYMPUS SP 550 UZ camera and you will have all the lenses you need...from exteme close-up to amazing telephoto; 7.1 megapixels and 18 X zoom, light weight, hang around your neck. One small drawback; it uses 4 AA batteries--take at least eight more; it eats batteries. AL

I went to Disney World in March. The first day I took the point and shoot. I was miserable all day! I couldn't get the shots I wanted. The P&S was just too slow! The next three parks I took my T2i and had a much better time! I got the shots I wanted and was a much happier camper! Now the water park, I took the P&S because it is waterproof, and much less expensive--since we left it at the chairs while we swam, I didn't stress so much about it being there unattended.

Took a Nikon 28-300 to Paris recently and didn't change lenses once. Also took my 24-70 2.8 for nighttime shots, but didn't need it. The VRII in the 28-300 is fantastic. I'd opt for that lens instead of the 18-200. My 2.

I would take a 18-105 or 18-200mm lens with vibration reduction if you can afford it. You will miss the action shots with the point and shoot. The picture quality is also better!
