Is it a specialty lens....or just a trick?

It's a Vignetter! Quite popular with wedding & portrait photographers eons ago. I seem to remember it being pronounced Vi-Nay-er or Vee-nay-er (I am totally unable to speak French). They're used to create a darkened "frame" as a part of the photo. Many shapes were used, but hearts were popular around Valentines.

Yes....I think Lens Baby carries some specialty lenses or attachments of that nature. I remember seeing it advertised in Outdoor Photography.

I'm not so sure about that; you don't need a lens to vignette a photo. Incidentally, it's pronounced vin-yet

Nope, I saw the commercial last night, too, thought it was a cute little gimmick :) The lens barrel on the camera is actually heart-shaped.
