I wanted to print out some pictures the other day and my printer-a HP Photosmart C6280- tells me I am out of one ink color. I put in a new one, and the same thing happened. Thinking maybe I had a bad cartridge I bought another one and it still is telling me the same thing. Any thoughts from all you helpful Hoggs about what I should do now? Is this fixable or do I need to look for a new printer?
Try this.

The problem with the cartridge is it may not registering with the printer due to the contacts on the cartridge and printer are not making a good enough contact with each other.
I would first remove the cartridge and clean the contacts with some toilet tissue, being careful not to damage the contacts.
Then you might try taking some paper towel and cut a section that is the width of the cartridge and fold the paper towel up end over end making a little wedge or pillow square. Do not make this too thick.
With the cartridge in the printer place the paper towel on top of the cartridge and close the cartridge lever the holds the cartridge down in place and then close the printer lid.
Be extra careful not to apply too much force to get the latch to hold in place, or you risk breaking the latch.

You might have to play around a little just write down or remember what you did and change it back when done. After i applied the change i printed a test page from the computer Printer Properties and it worked. The other thing i did as well was printed a scanned page so maybe there is a resourve for all the colors that is in the printer as well who knows but this saved me $25. and dealing with tech support.
