Anybody had this printer problem?

I wanted to print out some pictures the other day and my printer-a HP Photosmart C6280- tells me I am out of one ink color. I put in a new one, and the same thing happened. Thinking maybe I had a bad cartridge I bought another one and it still is telling me the same thing. Any thoughts from all you helpful Hoggs about what I should do now? Is this fixable or do I need to look for a new printer?

First trial - disconnect printer from power wait 10 minutes to let the power reserve capacitor to drain and then plug in the power again, restart printer, monitor printer display screen, if any error codes are displayed copy them down (to be used to talk to the customer service rep with). The removal of the electricity is to allow the memory capacitor time to discharge and permit a clean reboot of the printers CPU chip. If the print cartridge error message persists you will need to call the customer service line. If the message goes away retry the printer. Remember sometimes the printer/computer artiesans get stuck and give false codes.

Hi Kathy,
Are you using HP Original ink cartridges? Aftermarket cartridges will almost always show as out of ink even though they may be brand new.

Funny thing...I had the same problem with my Canon PIXMA Pro-1. It kept telling me I was out of 3 colors of ink. I tried replacing them multiple times, but no luck. Canon finally had to send me another printer, as it was under warranty.

You might try one of Hp's diagnostic tools. They have corrected error message problems for me. Takes about 5-10 minutes. They from the Hp website and are different from what came with your printer.

Yep, I've got a HP desktop, all in one, doesn't reconize ANY cartridges. Bad part is, they are pretty new HP XL carts. Had to get a 25.00 canon from Walmart just to print some labels.

Nothing I could do,to get the thing to reconize the inks.

Did you turn it off or did you un-plug the electrical cord from the wall or machine? If you just turned the printer off there is still power being supplied to the Printer CPU and Memory Cards of the machine. This is called parasitic power to keep from having to reset all of the printer settings each time you 'Turn the Printer Off'. If after un-plugging the printer and it still gives you the error message, then call Customer Service. Most people do not realize that the parasitic power draw to keep the memory alive is part of the operating system design of most computer controlled machinery. Sorry if I am sounding harsh!

Kathy,
It's possible that your print drivers are corrupted. If you have the original disc that contained the drivers that came with the printer, try reinstalling them from that source. If that works, you can always update your print drivers from the HP website.
You might also try cleaning the electrical contacts in the printer that contact the ink cartridge with a swab and alcohol. Just a thought.
Sometimes, the drivers get corrupted and strange things happen. What the heck...it's worth a try.

I have had this printer since 2008 and this is the first problem I have had----don't use it a whole lot for pics--more for just everyday stuff. What other brand would you suggest
